Best player for less than £100?

Hello guys,

Sorry to open a thread about something that must have been discussed 19321 times already... But basically i need some advice here..

The player should have HDMI, be able to play DivX from DVD-R's and well, be GOOD generally.

I was looking at the Samsung 850/950 but there seems to be a few issues with it (the HDMI message and stuff, is it really that annoying??). Then the Toshiba 350E can only play DivX files from CD-r's (as far as i could see from the manual)...

Anything else i should be looking at? I don't mind upscaling, as i think my new HDTV (most likely a Samsung, still deciding) would look gorgeous anyway with "normal" 565p from HDMI, but if upscaling is there, then it's fine by me.

Sony are generally quite expensive so i haven't really looked at them.

Any help would be very appreciated!!

I have the Samsung HD950 and its fine, not outstanding but what do you expect for around £100?? It has a more than acceptable PQ and a decent sound, HDMI and upscaling. the bright white display can be turned off very easily by using the main dvd menu which seems to be a common moan by forum members, so dont let that put you off this player. Although not a HDMI equiped player but I would also reccomend the Pioneer DVD575, a fine player with good PQ, sound and sub £100 price - then just hold off until Blu ray/HDDVD arrives soon!!

Not true, i have a 350E i play all of my divx files on dvd-r's. It must be a mistake in the manual.

Oh really? That's quite cool. Seems like a very good player for the price (around 70 quid from amazon?!) so i might just go for that one and let it output 565p on HDMI, which apparently looks better than the upscaled options it has.

the only issue is that blue light...
