This is probably a question for Nic or Gordon.

I've asked a similar question before. Nic kindly advised that he had a component lead made up by Keene Electronics (he thought). Keene have various leads that might do the job, but which one?

BTW this is to connect a Toshiba SD9000 to a Loewe Aconda via component.

The various leads they have which may work are:

Scart to 3 Phonos (RGB Sync on Green)
Scart to 4 Phonos (RGB + composite for Sync on Green)
Scart plug to 3 x phono plugs (switchable in/out of scart)

Which one do I need, or are they all useless?

Looking again at Keene, I think one of these may be what we need:

Scart to 3 BNC (RGB Sync on Green)
Scart to 4 BNC (RGB + composite for Sync on Green)

Maybe the latter. I'm still way in over my head though, so any pointers in the right direction would be gratefully received .

Either of the first two. The Loewe can be set to accept sync from composite or sync on Y for component in on Scart 3.

The last lead is likely to be audio l/r and composite video so it's no use at all.....

Gordon is correct, I recommend the 4 lead version, it just gives you more flexibility than the three for when it goes to mates house fo a demo.

The only question I had is over the quality of the cable, then I remembered QED make a Scart to 6 phono connector called the AV19. It is described as:

Scart to 6 x RCA Phonos Component RGB + Stereo Out + Sync

This sounds the same as the second cable above except it also has two audio connectors (which could be useful, but also may degrade the signal). The QED catalogue says the cable is directional, but am I right in saying that it would be bi-directional when used in this way?

hi gorden, i'v got a tosh 32zd98 tv with 3 scarts one rgb do you think it will work with this tv and if so will it be better than rgb.

Cables with audio and composite video will be directional. This is because rgb is wired to rgb (same pins) at both ends of a scart but with audio pin 1 (r audio out) goes to pin2 (r audio in), pin3(left audio out) to pin6 (l audio in)...so you need to know whether the scart end is for outputting or inputting signal...same with composite video

DVD: The Loewe's are the only TV's I know that support Component YPrPb (yuv) in on their RGB scart sockets. However, I don't actually see much/any difference between the RGB out and YPrPb out from an Arcam when fed to this socket. This is contrary to what others have said. As conversion between RGB and YPrPb is, essentially, lossless there shouldn't be any difference and if there is it's not because component is a "better" method of transmission, it's just that it's better in that equipment combination.

Gordon has given you the info you need. Loewe Aconda is the ONLY tv that has component inputs into a RGB scart. This is NOT a standard. Other tvs will NOT work like this. Whether you have BNC at the end of the lead or RCA sockets is down to what you DVD player has. BNC and RCAs are just different connectors carrying the same signal. BNC is better but not worth worrying about.

You first need to check you have component signals coming out of your DVD player, many DVDs do not offer this. A DVD player with component outputs will need a component input compatible device. On tvs this is only possible the Loewe Aconda and some Toshiba models. Nothing else currently works other than plasmas and projectors.

I agree in theory that there should be little or no difference between RGB and component, the conversion is essentially lossless, however my experience with an Arcam DVD player and Loewe / Toshiba is that I prefer the component connection. I cannot give a scientific explanation why it should be better other than a better implementation.

The other Loewes also accept component thru SCART...

I have tried this on at least 12 seperate occasions from component out (dvd) to scart in (tv) and vise versa and it does not work.

The other way to connect a Component DVD to a Scart is by using a external convertor..

This is how I am running my Gamecube in RGB from the consoles component outputs...

They do cost a bit though (£200+).....

What do you mean vice-versa, and what do you mean didn´t work

By vise-versa I mean I've tried a component to scart from an sd110,210,dv737,dv939 sony dv725,735,700 and even the 900 to every 32" tv set on the market and also every dvd scart to component on the Toshiba 32zp18p,36zp,the 42",50 and numerous other tv's but to no avail,I cannot find any tv that will accept that type of cable except the Aconda or Vitros(dont know about any other Loewe tv).If you have a Loewe I would imagine it will be ok but for any other I'd have to say that it cant be done.

As far as I know, the only player that outputs component video thru SCART is the Arcam DV88, the only TVs that accept it thru SCART are the Loewes...
