try this

The firmware of the Dvd-2800 is improved constantly by DENON. The Aufspielen effected by CD-r and can be settled problem-free by everyone. The appropriate Downloads gibt's in the following:

The current version is ESS5248 (original of DENON without PAL PROGRESSIVE ONE)
and/or.
ESS2248 © 2001 by dvd hacker Germany (DENON DVD Freaks) with CODE-freely + PAL PROGRESSIVE ONE

Ø Burn the appropriate file "bank30.rom" simply on CD-r (in the root listing. only these a file on the CD burn!!)

Ø CD-r into the Dvd-2800 insert

Ø The Player loads the firmware automatically + switches after approximately 1 minute into condition By

Ø At the same time afterwards at the Player (Skip <) + (break) + (open/cClose) press ( without Disc in the Player.. importantly!! )

The original the on firmware CD-r is actually only needed to put back around the Player into the original state (without PAL PROGRESSIVE ONE). for instance in a case of warranty.
The firmware design of a Dvd-2800 can be determined as follows:

Ø Player switch off (at the equipment)

Ø (Play) + (open/cClose) at the equipment press and hold

Ø Player switch. thereby (Play) + (open/cClose) further approx. 3 seconds on hold

Ø Press the menu key afterwards on the remote maintenance 2x

Newer firmware?

Hmmmm?
Are you sure its currently ESS5250?

If so you have a later firmware than I've seen elsewhere.

Anyone know anything about this and whether there is a PAL Progressive version of this also?

Thanks,
Ian Guinan

I can think of two possibilities;

1) your CDR might be bust. Try burning a new one yourself. The files are available at www.geocities.com/denondvd
You need to burn the file bank30.rom onto a disk and it should then in theory autorun the update when you insert it into your player.

OR

2) the newer firmware no longer looks for bank30.rom on disks for upgrade and searches for another file? Bad news if this is the case, and will despairately need a new version of the hacked firmware.

Where did you buy your player? Have they been helpful at all?

If you do find a newer version of the hacked firmware I would be very interested to see it.

Regards,
Ian Guinan

denon 2800 help!!

DVD

here is the instructions that I found to work all of the time though I am now confused what is the latest firmware which I thought was 2248 my initial thoughts was anything with a 5 is USA and anything with a 2 is PAL !!
You can check the firmware version on the player as follows :

1. Turn player completely off with main power button on player.

2. Hold down the "Play" and "Open/Close" buttons on the player while
you press the main power button on the player to power it on.

3. Press "Menu" button on remote. Display will show microprocessor
version. Press Menu again and it will show software version.

4. Power off and on before you use the player again.

The firmware is the number with ESS in front of it.

To upgrade the firmware, burn it onto a cd and :

1. Once you burn the Bank30.rom file onto a cdr you turn your player
on and insert the cdr. The display will show LOADING for approx 30
seconds after which the player will turn off into standby mode.

2. Unload the cdr and press the power button on the player to power
off the machine completely.

3. Hold down the "Skip" and "Pause" AND "Open/Close" buttons on the
player and keep holding down while you press the main power button on
the player to turn the player back on. Let go all the buttons once the
player is back on. The display will show "Initialize" briefly.

4. Power off the machine completely and power it back on. Player is
now upgraded.

thanks laurie, but i think ian_guinan could be right that the new
firware no longer looks for bank30.rom.
i played a knights tale r1 last night with the ESS 5250 firmware.

1) load a r1 disc

2) put player on standby

3) press 1 then play on the remote

it works but not all the time, can take up to 3 min !

got my denon from hiway hifi edgware road london.

denon 2800 help!!

Dvd

assuming the worst.....that Denon had to put a stop on Pal progressive,RCE,Multiregion ect by the mob in the USA...then if you reload ESS2248 it should work...but and the big BUT is have Denon modified the hardware!!...and if you do load ESS2248 how do you get back the original version, that is why we need to know what this newer firmware does
cheers Laurie

without the autorun from CDR upgrade there will be no path for downgrading to ESS2248.

Have you had any further news from your supplier?

How reliable has the handset hack proved to be so far?

I´ve got my player today, Firmware 5250 and therefore no R1 or Progressive PAL!!

Anybody who knows how to get the modified firmware to work???

Is there a "manual" way to switch between R1 and R2 that works?

Very grateful if someone has some answers.

i've got the same firmware, and i'm still trying to get the Ess2248 to load.
but there is a way round it.
1)put on stand-by
2)press o,9,9,9,9
3)you can play your r1 disc now

it may not work first time but keep trying, but it will disable rgb

Thank you for your suggestions

dvd:
Have you tried to 1:st load the 5248 and after that 2248.

The numbers for getting R1 is it zero (0),9,9,9. Will it play R2 also or do you have to do this everytime you want to play R1

The new firmware 5250 still has the possibility to "downgrade" to 5248 and after that you can load the modified firmware 2248.

I just did it.

dvd:
Try to use another brand of CD-R or preferbly a CD-RW. It could be just problems to read your burned CD. I did use a CD RW.
If I could do it you can do it too...
