Toshiba SD350E or Pioneer DV575 ?

I am torn between these models and wanted to see what is considered to be the best DVD player to go with my new Panasonic 37PV500.

I have read a lot about these models on the forums. I will be connecting it via component. I could use the HDMI connection on the Tosh but I have read that the PQ is not that great ? A lot of people seem to like the Pio from what I have read too but I can't seem to get a definite answer.

The Pio is £100 on the RS website at the moment with the Tosh around £80.

Comments are welcome.

Cheers,

D

I'm wondering whether to go for the Pioneer 575 or an upscaling player, after seeing the Incredibles being upscaled to 1080i on Xbox Media Center last night- it looked fantastic!

Is the Toshiba an upscaling player ? I am sure I have read somewhere that it is.

Is this only via HDMI or is this via component too ?

Apologies if this is a stupid question.

The Tosh is an upscaling player, through HDMI. There is no upscaling through component. I also have an advert for one thats for sale in the classifieds

UrbanT, thanks for that. I have seen your advert. PRC are selling it for £76 which is only £1 more than your friend is asking.

Can you buy both, try 'em and keep the one you like best?

Richer are fairly accomodating in this way. They used to have demo rooms but are phasing them out, stating they are happy for people to try at home...PJ

I cannot seem to find the 350E on their website, only the 340E for some reason.

That is an option but could be a pain as there are no RS stores near me really.

Toshiba 350 vs 340

What is the difference between these 2 Toshiba models? Is it just that the 350 has HDMI - which I have read gives inferior picture quality compared to the Component Video picture quality - or are there are other significant differences?
The 350 is a mere £9 more than the 340, albeit from different sources (PRCDirect & Toshiba respectively).
