Pioneer DV565A component/progressive scan problem

I have a Pioneer DV565A dvd player, and just bought a Panasonic TH42PA50 plasma TV. I try to use Monster Video2 component cable to connect the two. On the dvd setup menu I choose to use component/progressive scan. This works fine until the next time I want to use the dvd player. Then the screen is all black (on the component channel). I then have to enter the dvd player setup menu again, and set the component output to interlaced and then back to progressive again. Then it works until I turn the player on and off. Then it is the same problem again...

This is really annoying, and I found a another posting on a norwegian forum where a guy had the exact same equipment and same problem. Unfortunatly nobody had replied to the posting.

Now I use component/interlaced, but I want to use progressive... Has anyone experienced this before, or have any tips what I might try? Is there for example a firmware upgrade for the player??

regards, Anders

I'm in Stavanger, Norway.
I just spoke to Pioneer customer service today, and they said that the DV565A does not support progressive scan for PAL. Only for NTSC. All new Pioneer players support progressive scan for both, but unfortunatly the DV565A was to old (from 2003). So I guess I just have to buy a new DVD player...

Ok... I thought the 868avi was supposed to be good?? Anyway, I am considering a Panasonic S97. It has received good reviews.

It has received pretty bad review in What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision, March 2005. they were especially unsatisfied about digital picture through HDMI which is its main selling point.

Hi
I used to have a 565 and always used it with prog on my tosh 36zp. Always did PAL prog - only thing was sometimes you would see it drop a frame. I didnt have the problem you describe though. Once it was set to prog in menu it stayed that way. I couldnt see a picture quality difference between PAL or NTSC. Have you tried leaving it set to interlaced on component and letting your tv do the progressive scan?

Hi Spaticus I have the zp36 and a 575 dvd. I have used both inter and prog on the dvd and don't see much difference. What is the best way to set these up is it best to use prog on dvd or prog on tv. I know that when I use prog on dvd it limits the screen size options on the dvd meaning that I can't see it in 4:3, for example. Using prog on the dvd means that I can only view a 4:3 dvd in wide, cinema or subtitle and I think superlive. Any views on what the best set up would be and maybe even what your set up is in terms of youe system?

Thanks

Hi
Not surprised there wasnt much difference as either way you end up with a prog pic. I noticed less jaggies with the dvd player set to prog. If you sit very close you might notice. Sat on the sofa there wasnt much difference. I used the tv and dvd set to prog as when using the dvd the tv does nothing and then when switched to my digital off air it does do the prog.
Ive sold the player now so I cant check which pic options are available. I now have a phillips 720 which I prefer. That does do prog and I can change the screen width on the tv.
regards

Oops
Of course I should have said if you are using component and the dvd is widescreen and is set to output in widescreen on the dvd player you cant get a 4:3 pic. Sorry
