I have no experience of the 1500, my old 450 produced pretty reasonable results but for a networked player I've gone for a Momitsu V880N (which also can use a USB-connected disk).

Have you visited KiSS' forum to see what users think of it?

Kiss DP-1500 - opinions?

My brother-in-law has seen this brand new for 399 and is considering it. Does anyone have one or is able to offer an opinion please?

His main priority is to be able to stream avi's wirelessly.

Ahhh I see it now.

It has a PC Card slot (presume it's PCMCIA) to add wireless on.

Completely missed that the first time, sorry!

yeah, think so. Handy little machines those.

I spent over a grand building a Windows Media Center PC, and those Snazio & Kiss machines do 90% of what I use the PC for, at a fraction of the cost

I don't think the DP-1500 has HDMI ....

Personally after my experience with a DP-600 I'd never touch Kiss again, came with some really fundamental bugs which are unacceptable for a 'ready' product .. IMO the ease of firmware upgrades these days have made many manufs lazy with regards to quality as they know they can fix it later

Snazzio units are apparantly much better, although I've never used one myself.

HTH

Cheers for the info.... do you know anyone thats had any experience with any other units... it seems many people dont have much good to say about the KISS range which is a shame because on paper the features are amazing for the price.... And 'no' the dp-1500 dosnt have HDMI im just asking around for people that may know of one that may have HDMI..... Thanks again for your info though...

I've got the kiss dp-600 and must admit i'm very happy with it. When I first got the unit I was a bit dissapointed cos of some of the bugs it had but ive updated the firmware twice since then and there are only a couple of minor ones that i have noticed now and there still working on fixing them. The picture quality esspecially through high def is amazing hooked upto my 42" plasma through HDMI. I stream all my stuff through the ethernet cable from my PC and handles most of the stuff I throw at it, DIVX, XVID, MPEG, .TS files etc A good place to look for info on these players is www.mpcclub.com

Re: KISS DP-1500 -- Any one got an opinion?

I have 3 Kiss DP1504's - they are good as a basic multi-format player - and pretty cheap to pick up on eBay - but they don't have HDMI.

I'm sure there is better out there now - but the Kiss DP-1504 is very cheap 2nd hand if you are after something cheap.

Re: Kiss DP-1500 - opinions?

If you wanted to use wireless on these boxes then I wouldn't bother, it kept crashing out.

I now have them set up via those home-plug things - and everything works great.

Re: kiss dp1500 for dvd and media server

Default storage is 40 gig on the 1504 - you can easily upgrade it to 80 gig - (I believe some have managed upto 120gig) If you are happy to use re-encoding as XVid then you'd be able to fit a few files on.

These are failty cheap to buy 2nd hand on eBay now as well.
