Question Toshiba SD140 DVD Player - Any good?

I am looking at purchasing the Tosh SD140 DVD player from Richer Sounds at £30 Brand New.

Question is.... Is it any good?

I have just bought a Sharp LC-37GA4E then realised my current DVD Home Cinema system (Sony DAV-S400) only has Composite connections !!!

Does anyone have one of these? Can anyone tell me if it has Optical output for 5.1 digital sound? I want to use Optical out from the Tosh into the Sony for Dolby Digital sound. Also, would the Progresive Scan via Component be any good on a model this cheap? Got to be a whole lot better than the Sony using Composite right?

Last question, I have seen some websites advertising this model as SD140 and as SD140E are these different models?

Cheers!!

Hi btb20,

No I didn't get one... Richer Sounds told me it didn't have Prog scan so didn't bother. Thinking about the SD340 instead.

Cheers

Hi,

I got a Toshiba SD140, (for the bedroom) and the box says Progressive Scan.

It's a good, DVD player, and in my opinion for the RicherSounds price of £30 it's the best value DVD player on the market.

Plus it has the outputs for 5.1 and component out, so if you wanted to use it with a AV Amp it's plenty good enough.

Anyone know a Multi-Region code/hack for it?

Cheers, Scott

My local Tescos has the SD-240 for the same price. Probably a clearance offer so stocks will vary.

The SD-150 is out now (or soon) which apparently offers DiVX playback for not much more money.
