I bought an LG DVC8700 combi player from EmpireDirect for around £85, got no component or S-Video but delivers excellent pictures and I think it'd suit your needs, although if I'd taken some/had the inclination I would've gone for one with better connectivity options.

If you want a very cheap player, acoustic solutions ones I've seen/used have been OK (though the drive mechanisms can be a bit loud, which may be annoying in a small room); I *think* argos had one for under £30, which might be worth a look. I'd avoid the black diamond players you sometimes see going cheap (ended up taking mine back - the hardware seemed OK, but the firmware was dreadful).

If you can pay a bit more and don't mind buying secondhand, you might get a Cambridge Audio player from Richer SOunds for under £50 which would look/sound much better than an Acoustic SOlutions one.

If you're near a decent sized town centre, you may not gain much by buying on the net - any discount on a cheap player would *probably* be cancelled out by delivery charges...

Happy shopping, anyway.
