Post DTS Lip Sync Problem: Player, Amp or Disk

I am currently using a Samsung 709 and Sony STRDB-930.

I have just watched Castaway in DTS, and again, the DTS sound track is slightly out of step with the video.

However, the DD track is fine.

This is the same on ALL of the DTS disks I have (i.e Gladiator, U-571 etc)..

I therefore don't think that its the disks which are at fault, which means that its either the DVD player or the Amp...

Does anyone else get this problem?

Any idea whats causing it?

It's a firmware issue on the samsung, common(ish) with other players of that generation.

Got firmware 3.32.. Can't get any higher than that...

When DTS first came out, I found a problem with DTS disks.. If you fast forward/rewind them when playing DTS, the picture goes 'low resolution' and stays this way when you continue to play.

If you do pause/play it goes back to normal.

This was reported to Samsung and they said that it was under investigation.

I recently spoke to an engineer at Samsung about this and was told that it was a HARDWARE problem... Not software.

Its possible that a batch of Samsung players have this 'hardware' problem when playing DTS.. As such, perhaps these same players have the lip-sync problem too.

I am worried, as I want to upgrade my DVD player and want to be sure that the model that I get doesn't have this problem too.
