The agreements aren't exclusive so i imagine you'll see a lot of these on Blu-Ray too!

Are these in addition to the 89 dvds that were announced at the CES, or are these new? just Sopranos was one of the 89 listed 2 weeks or so ago. Release dates being qtr 4 2005/qtr 1 2006.

Just what can you play any of the HD-DVD disks on at the moment?

The standalone players don't seem to be due until the end of this year. Is there a disk unit for a PC that will allow them to work?

Whatever, makes me glad that I only blew £110 on a 575a and not £500 on a 2910 as it looks like I'll need a new player early next year.

Thought so, just the guy stated that they had just been announced. Which is obviously incorrect. As for the format, it's unlikely we'll see HD-DVD players in the UK til mid/late 2006. Players will probably launch at a premium near £1,000 if the launch of dvd is anything to go by. Who knows how expensive the first discs will be? Most likely they'll be priced higher than dvd so £25/30 for single/dual disc sets. There are various factors that would suggest take up will be far slower than dvd, meaning dvd prices are unlikely to fall as quickly, special offers etc taking longer to appear in stores.

The only way I'll be watching HD-DVD or Blu-Ray discs in the next few years is if I buy either the PS3, (Blu-Ray), or XBox 2, (rumoured to have a HD-DVD drive). Otherwise it'll be 3-5 years before I buy a hi-def player. Not looking to pay more than £500 for a recorder.

Uptake will be very slow i'm sure. You have to splash out on a new TV before anything am i right?
Will there be such players that can handle both blu-ray and HD discs? I suppose the difference in quality will be minimal if anything.

You can't play these non-existing discs on any non-existing players at the moment - players should be out late this year as should suitable PC drives.
