Pioneer AX5Ai & 868 DVD iLink

Have a problem getting these 2 items to talk via iLink. If I go through the set-up menu and turn the iLink on and off then it works fine. Once set, if I turn the DVD off then on it displays Checking Link for a while but the blue indicator does not come on and I get no sound.

Anything I am missing to get these products to handshake consistantly?

I had the same problem with the same gear.

It was resolved when both the DVD player and the receiver menus were set accordingly for i Link. If only one is set, then it's a bit hit and miss when the i Link works.

DVD player: Initial settings/i Link etc, pages 77 & 78 of the DVD manual.

Receiver: System Setup/Input Assign/i Link, page 91 of the receiver manual.

Steve,

Thanks very much, that fixed it! (so much for the auto-select!)

Now, if you could fix the problem that I have in RGB....

Regards,

Rob

Rob,

I've had a look through the thread about the Pioneer 868 RGB problem and also just had a look at Star Wars II.

I use HDMI out to DVI and there isn't any problem whatsoever, but on component out, the ghosting effect is there very slightly. This can't be seen at all if I'm over five feet away from the screen. I'll perhaps connect an RGB cable later to see if it is any worse and maybe post the results on the 868 RGB thread. If this didn't happen on your Sony DVD player then I suspect that it could be a design fault on these players. I have previously read on this forum that Pioneer made the analogue outputs inferior simply to make HDMI look better.

Incidentally, I had the Sony 735 DVD player and in terms of overall PQ I wouldn't say that the Pioneer 868 is that much better...........even when using HDMI.
