Post DTS 'bug' on Samsung 709

I was watching U-571 today and noticed something horrible.

It was only after playing a little more that I found that this can be seen on Gladiator too, but only when watching them in DTS!

I don't know if you have noticed that when you watch R1 films and pause/fast forward, you can see 'stepped/Jaggied' edges. Its like you are just seeing 1 of 2 interlaced frames.

This is most noticable on text or near horizontal lines.

Anyway, this is something I have seen on all R1 films before and never worried about it.....

However, when I was watching U-571 this effect was there all the time!.. All the edges were jagged and scenes where there were lines (i.e power cables, ropes etc) looked awful.

However, I found that if I hit paused then play, the problem would go away.

I then found thatt if I did fast-forward/rewind or skipped a chapter, the problem would return.

Again Pause/Play would sort it out.

After I had watched the film, I started again, but this time in DD and This time there was no problem.. But putting it back into DTS, made the same thing happen.

Next I tried Gladiator and again it was fine in DD, but once in DTS, any skipping around whilst watching left the film in this funny mode.

Its easy to reproduce.. Just put in U-571 or Gladiator... Select DTS.. Play and look how 'clean' it looks.. Then press forwards or back. Now look at the edges.. Steppy?.. Then press Pause/Play and it should go back to normal.

I am running 3.24 BTW.. Can anyone else confirm that they too have this problem.

I have watched U571 on an Hitachi 305 (which is a re-boxed Samsung 511) and it looks fine.

Not sure if this helps at all

I can't even get DTS sound on my Samsung DVD709 on any DTS disk I own - DTS is enabled on the player and my AMP (Pioneer VSXC301) supports it. Any ideas or am I a complete dufus?
