Post DVD Audio...have I got it wrong..

I just picked up a new Pioneer 939-A this afternoon...and after "carefully" ripping the box aprt...put it in place next to my shiny Denon AVCA1SE...hooked it up using Optical...and popped in a DVD Audio disc...however the signal defaults to two channels (stereo)...I can use DSP etc for multi-channel..but this sort of defeats the object..I was looking forward to DVD-A after being a massive fan of DTS audio..but decided to make the upgrade...So my question is..have I missed something..???
Any help would be appreciated..

thanks mate...
I'll hook up the six audio in's...I assumed the optical would do the work...but of course thinking about it..if that's the case then we wouldn;t need DVD A players..just amps...
many thanks...I'm gonna blow the doors off for the next hour..
Out of interest...anyone here listened to both DTS and DVD-A...major differences..?? or too early to tell...

there's a fair bit...
DTS audio...I've got about 30 discs...mostly classical..but some fairly "mainstream" stuff...
DVD-A....only just got two discs...and four more on the way..and a demo disc with the player...

Hi Steve,

can you post whether you believe DVD-A to be worth the expense please. I haven't heard it yet so it would be valuable to know if you rate it better than stereo cd. I've read reviews in mags but I sometimes feel that reviewers go overboard simply because something is new. I feel that it is better to get an insight from someone who has actually bought the product.

Peter,
I must admit I did struggle to notice a leap over DTS audio when I first heard it...Channel separation on DTS audio (on the whole) seems so precise that I didn't think DVD-A was different enough to justify the upgrade...After listening to Sandman a few times on DVD-A I'm coming round to thinking I made the right choice...The other aspect of course should be the amount of discs available..DTS audio never really got the chance to make it big as so few mainstream titles made it...DVD-A I would expect to get picked up by many music houses..so hopefully a format for the forseeable future..
I know this doesn;t really answer your question...but I think I need to hear a lot more to be totally convinced...
