Richer Sounds are selling new Limit 9900 dvd players for as low as £25. I believe the spec has pal/ntsc progressive scan plus a full 5.1 decoder with dd/dts and dvd audio. Probably a good example of a budget player. Its an old model that dates from the end of 2002 but for the money I imagine you'll be impressed. Probably a good reference model to see if more expensive models give you any extra performance.

Tesco are selling the Tosh SD240 for £45 in store. I have recently bought a new TV that does progressive scan, sorry to go OT but does anyone know is this is a good for a main DVD player? There seems to be very little info that I can find on this. Currently using a Tosh SD100E which I find to be very good.

Thanks and this is the cheapest easily available progressive scan player that I know of.

What Hifi gave the sd240 five stars and said it was better than the sd330 which is two models above your sd100 so I would have thought you'd be happy with it. For £45 you can't really go wrong!
