To do with PAL/NTSC/AUTO settings

When i have it on AUTO (default) on my TV screen it flickers between colour and black and white on both films and when no disc is in, i.e. the pioneer screen saver.
When i change it to PAL its fine, haven't tried NTSC

It's not the dvd as i have 2 of these dvd players and it does it on both.

DVD to TV connection is via s-video(DVD) to scart cable(TV). The DVD's video output is set to s-video.

This is only a minor issue, and am just wondering more than annoyed about it as a problem

Why not use scart to scart cable? That should give a better picture and may also solve your problem.

Yeah i will do just haven't got around to it.

I've just moved from an all in one system which only had s-video hench i had the cable so i used it.
