I cant get divx video files to work on the dvd player. I have read that you may have to wait for a while before the player starts playback but I have left it for 10 mins and nothing happened. Any suggestions ?

Pop the Disk in and wait for it to finish spinning.

Press the "MENU" button and you should get a file browser - choose the file you wish to play and hit ENTER when it's selected.

I do tend to put multiple DIVX files on a DVD-R though...........

On my old player a menu came up straight away displaying what was on the disc but the Pioneer doesnt do this.
Just put the disc in and wait for a few seconds and a bar should come up with "MPEG-4" written in it. Press the menu button and it will display all the Divx/XviD files on the disc, select the one you want and away you go.

I have been trying it using CD-RW. I get the menu and select the video but then nothing happens.

It could be that it doesnt like the type of CD-RW you are using so it is failing to play the file or the file might be a format that the player doesnt support, I have a few files here that played ok on the computer but the player refuses to run them.

Like I said, it could be the format of the file which the player doesnt like and if so then you wont find any Divx player which will play it but it is possible it is something that can be fixed with a future firmware update.

All I know is that 99% of the files that I burn to me DVD-RW have worked perfectly and I have never had trouble playing a file because of the media I have used.

Hmmm, I really like the look of this player and DivX is a must. The other thing that worries me is that it is DivX certified and not simply MPEG-4. So does it play the ever-more-popular XviD format ?? Anyone know?

Yep it plays XviD files perfectly, at least all the ones I have tried.

Some XDiv files are the ones that cause problems for just about all DVD/Divx/XDiv players. With the current players on the market it doesn't seem possible to find a player that will play EVERY file without problems or at least without file modification first.

In theory the player can be be upgraded via a firmware update disc similar to the one Pioneer recently released to enable subtitles on divx files.

This version improves compatability with certain media, fixes a few bugs, improves DIVX playback and includes DIVX subtitle support. I upgraded my multi-region 575 from f/w v1.22 to v2.09 with no problems.

I assume that the Pioneer basically plays about 87% of all different formats. More than any other player? My Yamada6600 didn't do too bad at 78% and I'm very happy with it's performance. Looks like I'm gonna have to buy myself a Christmas pressie! (I' could always say that it is from Santa?

Just looked at the details on the french site and its a bit of a mess with loads of info wrong. The Yamada 6600 has 5.1 surround sound but can't decode dolby digital or dts! Work that one out. The Kiss DP-450 has no yuv/component, vga or composite output. Fair enough you need simple cables to adapt the outputs for component and vga but these are easy to make and it obviously has composite output. These are the only two players I know well and I can spot loads of errors on their information so I wouldn't use it as a reference site thats for sure.

I held off doing this upgrade as I thought it only added subtitle support but now I know it does all that I'm going to upgrade tonight. Bought my player from richer sounds so if it mucks all the multi region ness I will just take it back.

Upgrading the firmware will NOT effect the region settings of your player.

If it is multiregion it stays multiregion.

If it is not region free, it stays locked.

Do not worry what the firmware says on screen as it will say region 2 even if region free.
