worth a chance with ebays buyer protection.

cufbert, if they are older stock - they should be selling for more than retail

because in recent firmwares, oppo has disabled DVD ISO and BD ISO playback from usb drives due to pressure from the powers that be

and so an older model, would likely come with a FW version before it was crippled (you cant roll back like with some other components), there are a lot of prospective and indeed current oppo owners who are paying a premium for the ISO enabled software units - some who upgraded, intentionally or mistakenly, are buying, or trying to source such a machine as a spare to have alongside their now crippled unit, so they can update their cripped one to have all the new fixes etc, but keep the ISO beast as a bit on the side.

"Crippled" ?

I think you are blowing the ISO thing out of all proportion. It is of no concern to most users who bought their player as a disc spinner and not as a media renderer. If you want to stream ISO files then why would you need the OPPO to do so? I'm sure it an inconveniene for those who had ripped files as ISOs, but the updated OPPO is by no means "crippled"!

The ISO abilities of the OPPO players weren't even officially supported or listed prior to the update, so I cannot see why you'd expect those features to be apparent to begin with? From discussions here on this forum, most people don't even appear to know what a disc image is let alone desire the abilty to play them.

crippled as in iso crippled, thats all, i am not calling the majestic oppo crippled as a whole.

i am not blowing the iso requirement out of proportion, i am merely conveying the sentiments of many thread posters i have read, on numerous boards in direct relation to this element - some even buying a 2nd unit to stockpile, and sell at a premium due to actual market demand

also, please dont assume that all buy their oppo solely as a disc spinner, as it has very wide known coverage that it is extremely good at playing files, often undocumented and officially unsupported, but nevertheless, this is and was a large reason buyers decide, with the great blu playback AND the wide ranging media file format compatability

its surely of no news to you, or anyone, that for many years folk have been ripping their dvd collection and indeed BD collection to the ever increasing array of NAS and hard drives, and therefore the type of person who would be an enthusiast to opt for such a high end machine, is likely also to be in the demographic of those who take the time and care to create a digital library of their discs, so a large percentage of oppo users i contest would fall into the category of using it for iso and media playback

i myself use my oppo in place of any dedicated media tank, as it has dual hdmi out, can do source direct, ISO and 3D iso, can output the correct colourspace - two of those four values, amongst media players, are unique to the oppo and therefore is the preserve of the discerning media playback viewer, who opts for quality and proper settings over admittedly easier, to navigate but cheaper and more ubiquitous jukebox / GUI fare

Did they ever recover the initial batch of 93's (80-100 units ?) stolen from Oppo UK ?

Not suggesting these are stolen units just curious about what happened to original batch and the request to keep a look out for new players being offered at unusually low prices.

THis is what sprang to my mind, especially seeing as the other player the seller has on eBay is being bid for and not being sold for a fixed price. Current bids are in the region of £230 which is below what even a retailer could procure one for!

OPPO BDP-93EU 3D FULL HD 1080P BLU RAY PLAYER BRAND NEW BOXED SEALED | eBay

I guess the only way to tell is if you submit the serial back to OPPO and register the purchase with them?

The seller is a limited company and recently registered at Companies House:

I wouldn't trust

This is copied from the Tefal Acifry that this company is selling on ebay. Not sure if they will apply this condition to the oppo but it makes me very wary.

If they are legal and are registable then there might be mad rush for them.
BTW, I emailed the seller and no they are not dvd multiregional, No biggie if they are in fact legal.

The one that sold for £350 had oppo warranty. The buy now ones just have seller's 28 day warranty, I know this because I asked.

No regrets for me.

There were two sellers, one in Halifax, and the other in Basildon (80868204404). I emailed and asked whether they were authorised sellers, as Oppo only gave a warranty to them and it isn't transferable.

They replied they were assuming the warranty was good, as they were unopened and unregistered. But they avoided the question of origin.

I asked Oppo would they honour the warranty, and sent them the eBay link. They sent this
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-11893522

Saying they do not know if they are from that batch, but only give warranty for units bought from authorised sellers.

I am not saying they are stolen either, just that a saving of 30%, with the possibility that it could all go wrong in a big way, means I don't regret the decision not to get one. But maybe they are bankrupt stock, and I lose out to a bargain.

Each to their own,

I do and I dont have regrets about this.
My finger was also on the button but said i 'll have a think about it first as i had to go out. By the time i got back in they were sold out.
However, earlier I emailed them asking about registering with Oppo and got no reply. Funny that as it was only a minute after i got a reply back to my first question about the multiregional dvd which i got an got back straight away.

I do regret that i could of saved £160. I don't because my alarms were ringing as they couldn't answer a simple question. Still, i hope they are cosha for those who have bought one
