Update

Hi again,

Well I have tried every feature and I have to say the 55 is very good. SACD via my CYRUS dac and pre is fantastic. As is CD.

I have tuned the picture and seetings for sound via my LX73, I would recomend re tuning it did make a difference.

So far the LX55 is by far the best Blu Ray I have used.

Cheers,

Possibly moving my Yamaha BD player to the living room so want a new player that has a natural picture like the Yamaha but quiet drive as the Yamaha is noisy.

Could this be the one?

Whats it like transport wise and build quality of the mechanism?

Any fan noise?

How did you 'tune' the picture? I have an LX54 going via my SC-LX83 receiver into my 5090 Kuro TV and haven't adjust any picture settings. The picture still looks great but if it's recommended I retune to improve picture the I will.

What did you have BDP did you have before as I'm wondering how the 55 compares to the 54 in terms of PQ and SQ?

Tune

Hi just played around with my TV picture settings to get the best from the new player. It is easy to do in the colour settings in any TV menu.

Regarding sound I played around with the mixer settings in the setup menu of my LX 73 to get the best from the Pioneer.

Well after a few days with the LX55 I'm now starting to like it a little more.
The picture quality is as good as my LX52 was and I like the fact that you can play a BDMV folder from a USB stick (basically allows you to play a ripped copy of your Bluray's without needing to insert the disc)
I have tried streaming some Bluray's from my PC and it plays the files ok, picture quality very good, but having some issue's with audio.
I'm not using the remote at all as I hate it, Pioneer have really let themselves down here, I find you have to really press the button's hard to get a response so I'm going to see if an LX52 remote will work with this unit and then maybe get one of them.
The only other thing that dissapoints me is it's looks, when I bought the LX52 I also bought the matching receiver and now my player and receiver don't match

If anyone has an LX52 player could you possibly let me know what the part number is on the bottom right corner of the remote control as I want to see if I can get one from Ebay and I need this number to do a search - Thanks

Yes the remote for my LX52 receiver operates it, it's just that the remote for the LX55 is so crap I wanted to see if I could replace it cheaply via Ebay

I picked mine up on Saturday, it was to replace my 54.

Well 10 mins in to the Transformers 3 and i get vertical lines on the screen. I checked sky and its fine so its not the tv. I carried on and it went green.

Tried my ps3 hdmi and the same fault. Tried my amps out hdmi straight to tv, to take amp out of the equation, fault stayed. Tried disc in my old 320 worked fine. Tried dvd in lx55 and it was ok. Just put kung fu panda in to see if it was the disc and i get the same issue.

Back to Sevenoaks for me on Saturday.

Gutted

Having loads of problems with mine. Now on to a second unit and still having problems with audio drop out, audio re sync and severe lip sync and the remote is rubbish = not at all happy.
My player is on firmware v3.0, anyone had a firmware update (before I send this one back to and buy a Denon !) ???

Had mine now for nearly two weeks and also loads of problems.
As Jenko12's post with the vertical lines and the picture sometimes going b&w, green tint and blue tint.
Had to unplug my sc-lx73 from the network as the player is causing the reciever to shut off then back on causing a nasty thump through the speakers. Lip sync an issue. Pqls dropouts. Player not keeping its hdmi settings. Some issues with sacd, e.g. singers voice not coming through the center speaker but in the rear left.

I have contacted pioneer uk support about the transformers disc issues and have sent my copy to them for testing, just waiting for a reply.

So, giving mine until Saturday to see if I get any satisfactory answer from pioneer or a firmware update that fixes the most serious problems. Otherwise i too will be taking mine back to Sevenoaks.

Oh dear. I've got one of these sitting unopened in its box waiting until my builders have finished some work here. Sorry to hear about these problems. Will report back once I get everything plugged in which will be approx one week from now.

It's not just transformers I tried king fu panda and it's the same, I think it's just blu ray as I watched a good hour of transformers on DVD and it was ok

Just put WALL-E blueray in the player to test. But this time used seperate hdmi for the receiver and tv. Sat down to watch it with crossed fingures but......... BLACK & WHITE....

A firmware update can't come quick enough.

My first experiences

with the BDP-LX55 are mixed. Its paired with the SC-LX85 receiver. However, it definitely needs a software upgrade. DLNA works, but not well. Have "hung" the player several times, the remote stops working except for power off. Have many error messages when streaming from my Windows 7 PC. Now its stopped detecting the PC on the network at all unless connected directly to the same ethernet switch.

Software upgrade complains about some "file not found".

IControlAV2 doesnt see the LX55 unless you manually enter the IP address of the player.

Playing BluRay and DVD seem all pretty good, although I dont know whether I should be using bitstream or PCM on the HDMI out.

Contrast that with the LX85 receiver. All works without problem (iControlAV2, software update) and airplay is a dream.

The overall setup has a great deal of clarity in the sound but is definitely "bright". Its connected to KEF reference speakers.

I have just watched transformers 3 on my player and have had no issues. I am using a split HDMI approach due to having a non-3D capable AV amp. I did not see any lip syncing issues on this disc either. Fingers crossed it remains this way.

I am sure that I will get a few discs over the Christmas period which will continue to test the player out. Hopefully pioneer will release a firmware update to solve issues that other people appear to be seeing.

Im not saying the 9th gen kuros weren't the best tv out-there for a long time, but the days of comparing them with todays TVs are over.Anyway detail recovery wasn't what they were noted for,the deepest blacks were, but in regards to blacks, the latest gen of panasonics have that part nailed. But lets be honest every decent tv nowadays has good detail, nice true blacks....why it was so important to some,il never know...of course black definition is important, but how much BLACK do we need to appreciate a good detailed, with decent HD picture, with a nice amount of black, thats not greyed out?Theres a lot more to consider when buying a tv.The plasma folks will probably disagree, but imo a tv & sources are lot more than how deep their blacks can go.

updating players directly from pioneer is like a shop that opens when it feels like it,though as long as an update is available, you will get it.When though is the question.BTW does anyone know for sure the lx55 is manufactured in-house?Smells like the sharp made 54 all over again.

According to info from another forum, the player is actually made by a company called TCL. Please don't shoot the messenger if this is wrong.

fair enough, but the vibrancy of todays led backlit lcd tvs & the latest panasonic plasma & led would show as much or more picture noise as the latest defunct kuro krp 5/600 plasmas.Granted they were the best overall tv of their time, but tv's have moved on.krp

finding a new pioneer BDP that works would be more the issue.Usman24 please dont get me wrong regarding my posts as you have the last great if not the best pioneer TV ever made & will stand up against various premium TVs for a long time to come,as i think i may have the last real pioneer BDP,but i really hope not.Has anyone on here got an BDP -LX55 that works 100% OK?

So far for what I use it for (namley playing blu ray movies), yes I have not had a problem.
