Hi Ian,
I demoed the DBP-1611 a while ago, and there was a scene in Sherlock Holmes where Jude Law was indoors talking to some guy with a beard and you couldn't clearly see the colour difference between his trousers and jacket which looked the same colour (yet in reality were dark grey/black and light grey), plus his red waistcoat was very dull - this was compared to the pioneer LX52 on the same TV which showed a much brighter red waist coat and clear distingtion between the trousers and jacket - much more clear vivid, but not garish.
If you have that disc, would be interested to see how the 2012 performs - I guess you could do a comparison on the same dispaly between the 2012 and your LX71...
Also, Iron Man 2 - there's a scene where there's a close up shot of the front of the audi as Rob.D.Jr pulls up and on the LX52 it was much more glossy shiny and vibrant, but on the 1611 it didn't quite have that rich colour and it felt lacking.
This put me off the 1611, but the pioneer didn't have SACD etc so I've been waiting for the 2012 to come out, and also considering the Oppo 93.
Hopefully with the ABT in the 2012 compared to the no-name processor in the 1611 the picture will be improved.
Some people say BluRay performance is pretty much similar on all players now days, but based on the demo's i've done I would disagree - although these were with out-the-box settings with no tweaking...
Anyway - would be great to hear what you think when you and others start using it

and if anyone has these discs and this player (or the Oppo 93) would be cool if you can give them a quick spin and check it out
