Have Panasonic TV...Panasonic or Sony BR??

Hi,

Have a Panasonic TH42PX60 tv and my 'normal' Denon DVD has packed up so now going to get a BR player. My question is, is there any benefit in getting the Panny BD60 as opposed to the Sony BD360? Other than the viera link, is there anything else that would make it worthwhile?

Thanks

The panasonic player has an offer for some free blu-rays i think? Other than that there's not a whole lot of difference but the 1080i only rather than 1080p you'll be mising out on will start to bug you and you'll be looking for a new TV within a couple of months I'm sure!

Is there really that much difference though between 1080i and p, plently would suggest not?? Anyway, I've got more chance of winning the lottery than I have of the Mrs letting me change the TV, so I'm stuck with the PX60 for the time being

i and p share exactly the same information on film based material (the majority). Your partnering equipment and not the player will determine whether the i is converted to p correctly.

Me too.

I'm starting to think about getting a blu-ray player have wondered the same thing as yourself.

The Panny BD60 only seems to be worth it if you actually want those 7 films that are on offer with it IMO. I'm swaying towards the BD360 or even the Philips BDP3000 and spending the saved ££'s on films that I actually want.

My 42PX60 hasn't missed a beat in 3 1/2 years, there's no way I'll be upgrading to a 1080p TV either.

Same situation as yourself. I have a panny 37PX70 and went with the sony 360 for a couple of reasons. Cheaper but just as good PQ, Panasonic BD60 has freezing issues, Sony now comes with 4 free blurays from blockbuster plus if you buy instore you get £20 in rental vouchers

on a 42" set you're not going to notice the difference. Forget about 1080i and set it to 720p. The only time you'll wish you had 1080p is on 50" sets and above

Don't worry about the Viera link, HDMI CEC control works perfectly between Panny TV's & Sony BD players

Thanks for posting that.

That's pretty much made my mind up... and if you purchase online you can get 8% cashback via quidco if I'm not mistaken.

Hi All,

Think you've swayed me to the Sony also. Might have to take a trip to Blockbusters tonight to see if there's any in stock.

Many thanks

The Viera Link on the Panasonic TV/Blu-ray allows you to do EVERYTHING on the TV remote control, whereas you would need to use the Sony Blu-ray remote for anything other than basic switching on of the player and playing (navigating menus, selecting chapters etc.)

Having lived with both setups recently, there is a big difference in ease of use.

I can see where you are coming from and indeed most of my stuff is Sony with BraviaSync.

However, I only felt liberated with regard to one remote does all when I turned off BraviaSync and fired up the Harmony remote.

The TV remote didn't really do it "all" for my TV, AV Receiver, BR player & DVD HDD Recorder but the Harmony does.

My poor old Harmony is now maxed out with 15 devices in total, including the Hi-Fi & Sony photo frame.
