I've seen these deals too but really cant pick between them, I too am looking for my first leap in to blu ray and have been looking a lot this week but the LG and Sony at blockbuster are the best deals i have seen other than a PS3 that was £200 at sainsburys.

My problem is i own an LG 32lt75 and a sony HT-SS 1100, I know they are both aging bits of kit but is there any worthwhile benefits of streamlining my set up to one make in the long run or should i just get whatever and look in to universal remotes to sync it all up?

If you can get hold of the LG BD390, get that one as it supports media streaming and a plethora of other functions that, even if your not goiing to use them straight away, will be there should you choose to make use of them.

it's an extra £50, i know i wont use them though as i have the xbox 360 for media streaming if i need it, plus for the forseeable future the pc it will stream from will be plugged in to the same TV so i may as well just use that instead seeing as it would have to be on to stream the content.

I'm not bothered about the extra streaming/youtube things that much anymore , came to the realisation that i dont really need 5 devices running you tube and my media when the computer uses the same equipment and has to be on. All i really need the blu ray for is blu ray movies/bd live and i'd probably use it as a DVD player seeing as the xbox is fairly loud and i dont really want more rings of death on it. That said wifi might be useful

Bear in mind that this will play MKV and HD DivX via USB, disc or Network with spectacular results

you're a persuasive one now i've checked out more about it it is tempting just for the wifi so i dont need to start running ethernet cables again

I doubt it will, but can it stream from an ipod like the xbox does? Also i'm guessing like most usb devices in players it will only run from a FAT32 formatted drive not an NTFS one. Also when streaming am i right in the sense it will find a NAS drive. With more gizmos like these tapping in to my media its seeming more like a good idea to get myself one of these soon to avoid turning my pc on to do it

On a separate note with LG, is the simplink feature actually worth having or using at all, i know this will work with my TV but i've heard mixed things about it actually being useful.

OK... more good news for you...

This unit will work with NTFS formatted drives, so you don't have the usual file size limitations.

Network integration is great too, whether it is froma media server application, NAS share, or even Windows shared folders since the last firmware upgrade (!!!) this will grab files from where ever you want to.

I have been streaming 1080p MKVs from my livingroom downstairs to my bedroom upstairs without a hicup with a Wireless G connection

this didn't work so well before the latest firmware, but now it's fantastic.

forgot about the simplelink... don't know, never used it as I have a Harmony remote, which is probably the best investment ever made.

both 360s are good players, the Sony can't handle MKVs, the LG can but only via disc or USB and FAT32 only. So it really depends what you want to do.

I personally think it's worth the extra, especially as I use the media streaming, etc bits more than playing blus on the BD390

haha, i think i may well grab a harmony at some point, im not an AV junkie so i usually settle for the best budget stuff i can get but play are selling a harmony 785 for £65 which i may invest in at some point, don't really crave spending over £100 on a remote though.

May look more in to a LG 390 at home though, does everything i need and more but wifi is so much easier than cabling, plus i dont think i will be getting the Humax freesat+ anymore due to lack of a dish in the future, so a stb using my media properly might be to my advantage in the long term, especially now you say it takes NTFS and NAS, chuck in working with windows media centre and it would sound even better but hey my xbox doesnt even like using that properly.
