Simple HK question.

I've heard that the Harman Kardon DVD30 is better for CD replay than the DVD25.

How is this? .... as it seems that the only difference is multichannel audio.

How does that make it better for standard 2ch Stereo?

Does it have better quality chips or something.

Oh.. and why isn't the HK30 on their main website.. only the 25

www.harmankardon.com

Looking to buy this.
If someone can convince me that the 30 will have better 2ch CD replay than the 25 I will spend the extra.

best regards

Doc

There is no difference in sound quality. Basically, the DVD25 already had all the guts of a DVD-A player, but these were disabled. The DVD30 is just a DVD25 with this hardware enabled. The only reason h/k didn't release the DVD30 earlier was because the sales for the DVD25 were so strong. You could still actually play some DVD-A on the DVD25.

Thanks Russell.

Nice to see another Newcastle member

Wish I'd bought the HK25 now and saved some money.

I was mis-informed that the HK30 had additional chips and the CD replay would be superior to the 25.

I am pleased with the picture quality. The CD replay is OK. The bass isn't great. Decent detail.

regards

HI all.

docfeelgood, I'm thinking of buying a HK25.
Would you mind letting me know how it compares to other DVD players in terms of audio/sound quality?

Picture through component is excellent.

CD replay via phono is very respectable.

I have compared it to a few other DVD players and CD players.

In my opinion you would have to spend £400 or more on a dedicated CD player to get a significant jump in audio quality.

It is... very good value for money.

Thank you both for your replies.

Mr Jason B, how does it sound to you connected via phono?
I would have thought your amp/receiver DAC is what you're judging when connected via digital.

Sorry m8,never tried connecting it via phono,so cant comment and at the moment the decorators are in so Im AVless

Ive got it connected to marantz amp and B&W floorstanders and it sounds excellent.Far better than I was expecting. The progressive scan also gives you a cracking picture
