Good Starter Blu-Ray Player

Just starting to shift to Blu-Ray from DVD's and HD DVD's, now ill be looking at purchasing one next month on pay day, whats a good starter player?, doesnt matter if i have to get second hand or new, im prepared to wait.

I've been offered a Sony BDP S500 for £150 from a colleague which has been remote hacked to Region free DVD's.
I've looked up the unit and it seems to be a solid reliable unit that has good reviews is it worth the £150?, it doesnt have DTS-HD decoding if im correct.

Andy

or new sony 360 for about £134 delivered, i would probably go with a new 360.

I'll second that!! As from coming Monday you can get the 360 from Blockbuster @£149 with 4 free blu rays

The Sony your colleague is offering was reasonable when it came out, but really phased out now, when compared with the new breed of players.

Re: Good Starter Blu-Ray Player

I'll third that

Does everything you need for starting out with Blu Ray and its a new model. Been using a PS3 for years now and never had a glitch so I would imagine its also as well put together.

Re: Good Starter Blu-Ray Player

I also went for the Sony BDP S360 from Blockbuster. If you go into the store and order you also get £20 Rental vouchers thrown in.

All you need to reserve is a £20 deposit but clearly you need to pay the remainder when you fetch the player on 23rd Nov.

If you tott that little lot up, you get £60 (4 x £15) worth of Blu-rays, £20 Rental vouchers and £69.99 for the player. Pretty neat deal.

Just to complicate things (and confuse you more) I have just bought a Panasonic - DMP D60 from RGBDirect for £157 which comes with 7 free Blu-ray movies (well, you have to send off for them from Panasonic. I also tried MultizoneAV.com but they didn't have the DVD region free model available at that price - the one from RGBDirect was multi region DVD at the same price as the ordinary one from Multizone. It is an extremely good player for the price.

Specs are here if you are interested.

That actually looks a lot better for the £, the Viera cast looks interesting also the fact it has BD live that i've never seen or used before.
I also like the look of this one compared to the sony, think i may have to invest in this even though i havent got my plasma yet
