noisy blu ray

hi everyone.i recently bought my first blu ray player, which is to go with my bedroom tv.it's a phillips bdp 3000.very pleased with the picture quality, and even dvds look surprisingly good on it,however i am disappointed with the amount of noise it makes in operation.it buzzes very loudly when playing blu ray discs, dvds not so bad,but there's still a buzz there.has anyone found this with phillips blu ray players,or do you think i have a faulty one.would appreciate your thoughts.thanks.

Re: noisy blu ray

I just saw these players for sale in Asda at £97.

I would also like to know if they are noisy?

Re: noisy blu ray

I bought one on Saturday, and the only noise I've noticed is when it's navigating around the disc justafter inserting it.
I can't hear any motor noise if that's what you're hearing. Playback is almost silent.

Re: noisy blu ray

Well I picked up one of these from Argos yesterday, and there's a constant bumping noise during playback as if the laser head is jumping across the disc, it's a bit of a pain actually, no dvd player I've owned has ever made such a racket! Clearly audible during quiet moments in films, so it's going back for a refund.

Have you tried various discs?
My Sony BDP-S360 makes the same racket you describe with 'Crank 2', but is completely silent with other discs.
Normal DVDs are fine too.
It's just 'Crank 2' that sends it into a hissy fit of noise.

I think you may be disappointed with Blu-Ray in general then.
Having investigated the problem I had with 'Crank 2', it appears to be an 'Authoring issue' which may or many not be repeated on future discs.
Not a player issue.
Some Blu-Ray discs also require the player to have some built-in memory, which my Sony doesn't have.
So I had to plug in a USB stick.
All things I'd never heard the like of before, prior to Blu-Ray.
