OT - F&H is the brand of satnav that Ebuyer now sell. I believe this is just the Navigo v3 rebranded.

So I suspect this BD player is the Momitsu unit rebranded.

Just need the codes for the Momitsu 799 now then. I've read they differ from the 899.

May I ask how?

Is it automatic, or do you need to enter codes, etc, every time you swap regions?

Cheers.

how long does it take to switch regions?

1 button press, or a bit of a long process?

edit - reading the manual, says it also supports .mkv through usb . and it cannot play discs containing PAL programs :S

re: Foehn & hirsch blu-ray player

It's the momitsu hack 973501 etc.

I've not really checked the upscaling. I'm used to the Oppo, so I'll compare to that and let you know.

Plays pal discs fine, however you have to set colour system manually, which is poor.

could you elaborate a bit more on that?

as an example, let's say I just finished watching a region a bluray, i tap in the code to change to region b, and then do i also have to swtich it to pal?

I hope you dont mind answering these questions. It's very appreciated as I was looking for a good and cheap solution for bluray/dvd playback.

re: Foehn & hirsch blu-ray player

Can anyone with one of these confirm that the Blu Ray code for region A/B is 973501/2 ? (sorry, page didn't refresh properly, just seen the answer below).

And is it DVD region free out the box or is there a code for that too ??

re: Foehn & hirsch blu-ray player

It's not region free for DVD out of the box but if you enter 0 as the fifth number of the region code all but RCE DVDs will work.

Also, I've not had to swap between PAL or NTSC, I just set the player to PAL and it's played everything up to now, which admittedly isn't that much, just spot checking different discs.

It's a nice little player considering the price, thanks for pointing it out.

With the Sony S360 going for 135£ why would you ever consider this brand?
The difference is 2 Bluray discs really.

This one can be made region free for Blu Ray. You'll never get that with a Sony without chipping it.

re: Foehn & hirsch blu-ray player

Personally, I got it for it's multi-region capabilities, a number of current and upcoming Region A-only titles are taunting me.

*shakes fist at Funimation and Criterion*

As for the player, there's nothing wrong with it from what I've seen and it seemed to be the same speed (if not quicker) for loading discs than the Sony BDP S350. It's also handy having the USB port on the front for images/video.

Wel , if it can be done MR for BR without a hardware modification then that's a nice feature.

re: Foehn & hirsch blu-ray player

Are ebuyer.com selling this with any sort of warranty?

If not then it might be an idea to look and see what Aldi are selling, since they give a 3 year warranty.

I own a Tevion DVD110UK which is basically a Momitsu BDP-899, and I am very happy with mine. It's a better machine than the Momitsu BDP-799 because of the improved connectivity options. My local branch is now selling these at £99.99 and with the 3 year warranty thrown in it's a bargain.

If however you'd prefer the 799 because it's smaller then the Foehn & Hirsch model could be a good choice, but I suspect Aldi will be selling a Tevion badged version of the 799 sometime soon.

re: Foehn & hirsch blu-ray player

Can't see anything about the warranty, so I'd guess it would be one year. Link below..
F & H Blu-Ray Player - full 1080p, DTS-HD with usb playback - Black - Ebuyer

If Aldi are giving a 3 year for the same thing that's got be a better idea than having to ship it back to ebuyer and wait while they sort them selves out. . .

Can anyone confirm this the same one at Aldi as the remote (in the very iffy pic's on ebuyer) look the same ?

ALDI - Hurry While Stocks Last
Compare the Aldi photo with this one:

BDP-899 Blu-Ray DVD Player

There is a long thread on the Tevion DVD110UK here.

Suggests it does.

My question - anyone know if this plays DIVX-encoded .avi files via the USB port? (I have a USB HDD with several such .avi files. At the moment I link my laptop to my TV to watch these files - would be nice to play them straight via a player).

OK here is the link for the manual of the Momitsu 799 http://www.momitsu.com/products/bdp_...9-E-090829.pdf

and it truly states that it can play MKVs from disks and USB (FAT/FAT32 only though for USB)

My son will be a happy lad this Xmas
