Just been listening to some music and i notice that my Sony DVD player is starting to skip. At the moment on the CD's it's only actually skipped noticably once that affected the music, but at regular intervals the DVD player appears to 'search' for the next bit of music and whilst this doen't affect the sound itself it's noticable and annoying.

Any ideas what might be causing this, it happens on all of the CD's i've tried but DVD's appear to play fine

Try cleaning it first. If it doesn't help then I assume the laser pick-up is de-adjusted (weird word).

I will clean it tonight. I assume that if this doesn't work then it will need to go in for repair. Am i likely to need a new laser or can they be adjusted?

The pickup can be adjusted but of course there is a possibility that the whole thing is faulty and needs replacement.

Is your player actually a single or dual laser model?

Its around 3 years old so i would guess it's a single laser model.
