Yeah, I'd definitely wait if I was in the market for a DVD player at the moment, now is not a good time to buy. If the T2 Extreme WM9 was anything to go by it's as much a leap in PQ as DVD was over video!

But I assume for people with HTPCs it's not necessary to get one cos we can just play the discs anyway?

Well i dont know much about WM9 to be honest. I do know for sure that the T2 wm9 needed a serious pc (like up at 3Ghz and a load of memory) and i also know something about there being difficulties playing the discs on the pc outside of north america. Im sure there were ways around, but at the time i remember alot of talk trying to circumvent this. If a player did it standalone, it sounds much easier.

Also, the basic player is meant to have been somewhat upgraded, so performance should be even closer to the hcpc with standard discs. Knowing that the pio 868 is being touted as looking better than an hcpc, who knows what the D3 will be in comparison.

I find that very hard to believe, by all accounts the 868 isn't supposed to live up to the hype. The denon dvd-a11 though sounds very nice but £1600, haha that's taking the mick

Gary lightfoot (of this forum but posting on avs) is the man in question. He compared the hdmi from the pioneer with dvi from a quality pc to (i think) on of the super high end sim projectors. The guys who were doing it (all knowing what they are about) seemed to think the pioneer looked better.

The thread is something like 'dvi versus hdmi' and it is in the >$3500 digital projector section.

Problem is there are so many varibles in a pc`s setup that affect quality.
To say HDMI is better than HTPC is a vague statement.
ie which software was used, which graphics card, system spec
etc.
ive seen a HTPC with one of those holograph grapics card and it was superb. (£700 so it should be) easy on par with my A11 DVI output.

Were the two images displayed at the same time, was the pc setup properly(a slight setting can make a big difference)

Still way too much hassle with a pc and the noise sucks as well.

But the new bravo via dvi will probaly perform as good as a HTPC
as the D1`s pic was excellent but the machine unreliable.
if they have sorted the "issues" then it is a bargain.

well i wasnt stating anything..... if you check out that avs thread, it has alot more of the details.

actually, the h3d cards (ive got one) are now considered second best to a pure dscaler solution.

I believe the newest bravo actually is one better than dvi in that it is hdmi

So buns, would you say that a SDI Silk card ( I have a SDI modded 2900 so need a SDI input) with dscaler would be better than H3DII? Or maybe the Vision pro with SDI input, but £2000

I wouldnt say that (since I have never compared), others would however..... I think H3dII is bogged in problems still, h3dI however seems to be still held reasonably highly as far as these things go. I have one and apart from when something goes wrong with my pc, dont have too many issues wth how it performs. You would be better to ask in the hcpc area about this and im sure johnad and jeff will give you their experienced opinions.

Jenz makes a scaler (which he sells - the Clarus) which has got at least one exceptionally happy owner (008 is the member in question), it is based on the h3dII so I assume Jenz has overcome issues in his own manner. But agai, it is £2000.

as i say, best to ask in the hcpc area, but dont mention the vision pro sdi because those guys dont like talk of such things!

thanks. I have the H3DII, and i guess I do object to being a permanent beta tester for Immersive. However PQ from the Denon via SDI is superb.

I lashed out on the Sweetspot card which uses dscaler, and PQ for Sky is better than using the component in on the H3DII. Hence my idea that a SDI input using dscaler - say the Silk card - might be better than H3DII, but how much better can it get given its superb already?

The vision would just be a much more convenient option, but at a price.

This constant search for perfection is making me a poor man.
