What DVD player? (Denon or Pioneer)

Hello everyone

I want to get myself a new DVD player but I'm still not sure witch one to choose I either want the Pioneer DV-868 or the Denon 2900 I just want the best picture quality possible I own a 28 inch Sony wide screen but replacing that next year for a new LCD-Projection screen (got the Samsung SP46L5HX in mind with the new HDTV Futures) does anyone got advice on what player to get sins the new pioneer got the HDMI maybe anyone know a other player that might be even better.

Thanks in advanced

if that samsung has a dvi or hdmi input then the pioneer would be a good choice. if not then the denon is the better option and has better features and a nicer sound. but for all out pic if the pj does do dvi/hdmi then go with the pio.

or save a few more penys and go for the Denon A11 which is awesome

The lastest issue of 'What Hifi Sound and Vision' has a group test review of all Universal DVD players. According to them denon perfomance is slightly better than pioneers ,but reckons once more HDMI equipped tv/plasma/projectors start appearing in large numbers then pioneer will be the undisputed king.

I am the proud owner of denon dvd 2900. Fantastic player.

i'll have to see it first but when i went to the usa about 5 months ago i saw the model before this one came out there and it looked just fantastic very sharp images especialy when watching dvd it was the first time i was impressed with a projection screen the lcd is a good step ahead for picture quality and a plus is when you replace the lamp its like new again but as i said i still have to see it with my eyes when its in a showroom or someting.

cheers

Its weird, i look on avsforums and i see loads of problems with the 5900 (macrovision blocking, contrast bug, random subtitles, loud discs, etc) yet i look over here and the (admittedly fewer) people that have A11's can't praise them highly enough, with the only complaint being slow menus.

Now mine has been delivered to my office, so i won't get to try it until i pick it up on Monday, but it would seem we have come out better than the americans on this one.. touchwood.

I just came from my av dealer in town and when they got the Denon A11 again (will be end of January) they going to hook it up with the AVC A1SR and a Pioneer 868AI with a VSA-AX10I for me to demo it. The guy told me the main difference between them isn't the video but the sound quality well when I have tested them both I'll be sure to post my thoughts here

cheers

Hi guys thanks for the feedback. In actuality, setting the player to 0IRE resolves much of the problem we have noted in the article

if you go to the forum of said articule you find this ammendment, yet in the articule they claim to off tested this setting. and considering this is the recommended setting what gives?

and considering i get better black detail fron the a11 than the tosh 9500e i dont realy see the problem. im yet to see macro blocking as well. as for colour wash out, funny very funny. ive tested this deck next to 2900 and the 2900 cant compete the resolution is much sharper on the A11 and the colours are vibrant as i have ever seen.
