Comparison in quality from £600 DVD player vs DVD recorder

Hi

I'm building an AV system that has to produce high quality cinema as well as Audio CD listening. (within a budget )

As such I have purchased a Panny AE100 projector, so want to use Progressive scan. In addition I have bought a Myryad MDP 500 processor which I can use to decode DVDs/CDs hopefully bringing the quailty up. 3 Linn amps, plus Linn speakers will finish the setup, apart from the source.

I'm considering the DENON DVD-2200 as the main player, but then had the thought wouldn't it be great if I could record on DVD as well.

So the question is are there any DVD recorders out there that do prog scan , plus can compete with the Denon for quailty / price ?
I'm assuming using the processor for decoding might make this more feasible ?

Has anyone done a £ 4 £ comparison on DVD player vs recorder to see how extra one has to pay to equal output quality ? (hard on I know)

Thanks in advance for your advice

Dave

I have a 2200 and at the mo I have a panny dmre50, which I've borrowed. PQ on the panny is acceptable, but not a patch on the Denon. I am considering buy a dvd recorder though to archive stuff off of SKY+ - I reckon the Panny will be less than £200 after xmas so there won't be a need to compromise.

Cheers Wilber

Do you feel the extra spent on the 2900 model would make much difference from an Audio point of view ?.

Currently looking to replace my beloved Linn Karik, which I know is going to be hard to replicate (Can't afford both )

Also being a fan of Pink Floyd I can't wait to hear Dark Side of the Moon on SACD.......I've heard its amazing

Only DVD Recorder with Progressive Scan, that I am aware of is a Grundig. Haven't seen it in action, but Dixons are doing it for about £200, so if it is good, it is one hell of a bargain.

DJW - didn't want the extra musical ability of the 2900 as I am happy with my Arcam CD72T. SACD sounds terrific on the 2200 (DSOTM in partic)

Cheers guys.....a 2200 I think it will be. I'll wait to start of Jan to see if any sales occur .
I think my 120GB Tivo will tide me over until DVD recorders drop a bit more in price
