Good news is that it can be made multi-region, mine was done by the vendor.

Bad news is I think you need a special remote and/or special CD to do it.

Re: Pioneer BDP-LX52 - Owners Thread

I've encountered a problem with my LX-52.

I have The Godfather Trilogy on Blu Ray and Godfather Part 1 played fine. Part 2 won't! It tries to read the disc and then it say's 'can't play' on the digital readout!

Any ideas??

I've checked and my firmware is up to date. Maybe I should contact Pioneer ??

Or should I return the player as faulty ?

It seems there is a batch of godfather disc which are faulty. others on this forum have had a similar issue with a Panasonic player and the disc freezing and skipping on the PS3. It may be an Issue with the disc!

No problems with any of the discs I've played lately. Disney Pixar Cars looked absolutely fabulous and the sound was immense.

I have Star Trek, T4 and and the Pirates Trilogy to watch next

Anyone else noticed how sensitive these players are to dirty discs? I was watching Tomb Raider earlier (purely to perve at Angelina) and it started skipping and freezing. Took the disc out and saw 2 dirty great finger prints. Wiped disc clean and it played fine.

Are you sure you hadn't accidentally paused your machine just when Angelina came on!!! LOL - can't knock you for it though

I think the players must be sensitive to dirty marks though - mine skips and freezes a lot more than my PS3 with the same disc. Its quite hard to keep my 3 and 4 year olds fingers off the discs. I'm sure they do it just to wind me up.

Got one of these coming tomorrow. Just a quick question - I have a Sony STR-DG820 Receiver - what would produce the best audio results - onboard decoding sent as lpcm or bitstream to the amp?

If the Sony can decode HD audio then I would bitstream it.

Having said that, I send LPCM from my LX52 to my Sony HTSF-1300 and it sounds fabulous. The Pioneer is a seriously good bit of kit.

Work in progress mate.

Just spent £1,500 on a tv and £500 on a Blu Ray player. Not to mention £280 on a stand to house it all!

Gonna check upscaling tonight and hellboy 2 on its way on blu

Any other owners yet ?
Mine had a blemish on the underside of the disc tray i take it yours didn't. Similar models have been sent to the supplier so just want to know if you got a perfect one?

It plays fine with clean discs.

Hi

I don't think its just you. I was watching The Incredible Hulk (Blu Ray), and the playback froze near the end of the film. When I checked the disc, couple of finger prints could be seen on the surface. Once cleaned, played fine. I agree, the Pioneer is a little sensitive to marked discs. However, I wouldn't change the player. I thought Blu Ray looked good using my PS3 until I got my LX52. Now, wow!! The one thing that immediately struck me was how rich the blacks looked on The Dark Knight. I almost dribbled on the remote I was so dumbstruck!!

Don't worry, i'm happy with my LX52. Since cleaning every disc off with a cloth before viewing, it's been flawless.

Currently sat watching Saw 4 on Blu Ray. It's scarily realistic and the sound is fantastic.

Terminator 4 tonight

Looking to upgrade my Panasonic BD35 to either a Sony 760,Pioneer Lx52 or Panasonic BD80.Has anyone seen the picture quality of a BD35 against any of these models?Would a change be worthwile as far as Blu Ray picture quality is concerned?

YES.

I used to have a Panny BD35 before I bought the LX52 (parents have BD35 now).

The blacks on the LX52 are breath taking and the picture is super sharp. The biggest improvement over the Panny is the sound. Just awesome.
