Blu ray audio into an old fashioned amp?

Hi - I am new to all of this and a total newbie. So dont shoot me.

Is it possible to get an audio feed from a quite basic blu ray such as the samsung p-2500 or the sony bdps350 into an old fashioned honest to goodness stereo amp?

The amp in question is my trust old well loved HK 610 which is not that old and very good simple stereo. But it wont have any of the fancy modern conections, just simple red and white analouge inputs.

Do either of the above units have the ability to feed classic amps? i cant find any pics on the net of the back of the units - a very useful view of a product is the rear view!

thanks

Hi.
You can get HD audio (TrueHD/DTS-MA) over the Multi-analogue connections or HDMI.
S350 will be HDMI only for the HD new codecs.
2500 has said connections but bass management is limited on this player so that will have to be checked out..........more here on the subject.
Samsung is one of the player where you can use Re-encode (over optical) this gives you max bitrate DTS from Blu-ray discs.
Cheers.

Re: Blu ray audio into an old fashioned amp?

Yes, you can do that, and will work quite well, but you obviously won't get multi-channel surround sound. Not the end of the World IMHO.

To make the most of such an arrangement, you would want a player that can internally decode all the blu-ray audio formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS MA.

Heres a useful place to check the functionality of each player. Basically you want green ticks for everything.

Re: Blu ray audio into an old fashioned amp?

Connections for the sony;

Connector Type: 1 x audio line-out ( RCA phono x 2 ) - rear ¦ 1 x SPDIF output ( RCA phono ) - rear ¦ 1 x component video output ( RCA phono x 3 ) - rear ¦ 1 x composite video output ( RCA phono ) - rear ¦ 1 x SPDIF output ( TOS Link ) - rear ¦ 1 x S-Video output ( 4 PIN mini-DIN ) - rear ¦ 1 x Ethernet ( RJ-45 ) - rear ¦ 1 x HDMI output ( 19 pin HDMI Type A ) - rear

And the Samsung.

Analogue audio output sockets: 7.1ch decoded analogue ouput (via 8 x RCA/phono)
Stereo output (2 x RCA/phono)

So,Yes stereo outputs present on both .

Re: Blu ray audio into an old fashioned amp?

gosh - very helpful people on this forum. most kind.

I quite like the sound of simple stereo hifi from a DVD player - i actually prefer it to any surround sound that i have heard (not many admittedly).

So i think i will try that method from my (not yet bought) blu ray player.

cheers again folks....
