PIONEER BDP-LX08 & DTS HD Master Audio

I've tried searching & all I can find out is that some places say it can decode onboard & output via bitstream only & others state that it can output via the analogue outputs, does anyone actually have one that can confirm either way. Hopefully it can decode & output through the analogue sockets.

Thanks, Charlie

Yes it can fully decodes DTS-MA/TrueHD over analogues or HDMI.
Firmware needs to be up to date though.
All the best.

I think I'll buy one now.

Hi Clampico1 - as Kingfats has confirmed, the 08 does DTS Master and Dolby True HD over analogue outputs. I recently did the firmware update to get the DTS Master and it sounds absolutely stunning - to my ears a noticeable improvement even over the True HD sound. We just have to get more BR discs with DTS Master sound released as they seem to be a bit thin on the ground at the moment.

After reading about the OPPO I'm having second thoughts but it's still nice to know it sounds good.

Re: PIONEER BDP-LX08 & DTS HD Master Audio

Hi Guy's

I have the LX-08 going into the Pioneer VSX-LX70 via HDMI and have all 7 speakers connected to the Receiver, can you advise whats the best option to set for on the HDMI Sound out on the LX08 ?

Auto or PCM ?

Also what should the Receiver Sound be set too ?

Cheers Guy's

Auto.
You should get TrueHD DTS-MA show on your amp.

I know this threads a little old, but are you sure about this? because in the Notice of Addition Functions on DTS-HD output it reads to me that DTS-HD Master Audio will not output by the multi-channel analog outputs but that DTS-HD High Resolution Audio will ? so what do you get outputted when you select DTS-HD Master ? i only ask as i have just picked up an LX-08 second hand?

That is based on how the player originally shipped. However, Pioneer released a firmware update for this player (and also the similar BDP-LX71 and BDP-51fd) which meant that DTS-HD MA would be decoded and output via HDMI or analogue output.

Your quite correct i am wrong here thank goodness (though i must say i was misinformed at first by pioneer, if your reading this you know who you are ) ....my problem then seems to point back to my Denon which for some reason is splitting the 5.1 into 7.1 but i cannot work out why & nor can Denon!! as it has no ProLogic IIx process etc etc as stated below from Pioneer (or the other option could be that maybe my LX-08 is playing up!)

After the update the DTS-HD Master Audio is used and converted to LPCM for the analog audio outputs, so retaining the full quality of the Master Audio sound track. The DTS-HD Master Audio stream also contains a normal DTS sound track at its core, so devices that can't understand DTS-HS MA will still be able to extract the core DTS stream. And thats basically what happened with these machines before the update. The LX08 would use the core DTS stream (normal DTS) and then convert that to LPCM for the analog outputs, so the end quality was limited by the normal DTS quality and you would lose the extra audio resolution of the MA sound track.
So if you play a DTS-HD MA disc now, you will retain the full audio
quality. I beleive that if the source is 5.1 then the LX08 should output 5.1and the two surround back outputs should be silient. It could be that the amp is doing a ProLogic IIx process to re-create the surround back channels?

via analogue connections? That shouldn't be happening because the amplifier shouldn't be applying ANY processing other than the volume control to that input...

I know I confess I am most confused the LX picks up all my speakers correctly in the configuration menu all are set to small & audio test levels show that I haven't plugged anything in the wrong place (hard to get wrong anyway) its set to analogue out, am at a loss to explain it! I wonder if it’s worth updating the firmware again, it’s on 1.70? The Funny thing is Dolby TrueHD 5.1 plays fine…hence me thinking its was the DTS-HD Master, i guess i must have a faulty LX, its the only option left!
