Quiet dialogue with Sony BDP350... help needed!

Hope this is the right place to put this.

I'm no techie tbh with home cinema, my kit is years old but suits me fine with the house I have and the money I can spare for it.

I can get a good sound when playing DVD's and the TV through the amp, but the Blu-Ray plays through optical connection and although the music & effects come out very loud and clear, often the dialogue is very quiet and I have to keep messing with the volume to hear it.

My amp is probably old (and isn't HDMI or anything) but hopefully there might be a fix to help me here... if anyone out there can shed any light on this it's greatly appreciated.

Players remote > Home > Audio Settings > Audio DRC > "Wide Range" that should be best if bitstream.

I did have it on that originally... didn't make any difference... changed it to standard and it's pretty much the same.

Can you adjust the speaker level? If you have a 5.1 system you could reduce the sub or up the centre channel.

That is what I do...

On some of my inputs, such as the Oppo 83 player, I have upped the centre channel by 2.0 dbs to make it easier for me to hear the dialogue in some films

i have this problem also , i use a sony s350 but am using just my tvs speakers and when watching blurays i have to turn it up full blast to hear the dialogue , dvds seem ok though.

i think its to do with the hd sound formats , thats why im interested in getting a system that can output the hd formats
