Which of these two?

Birthday coming up and I guess it's time I dipped my toes in the Blu Ray waters. Thinking of either the Sony BDP 350 or the Panasonic BD 35. Both can be had for reasonable money now. I'll be keeping Yamaha DVD S2700 (for SACD and DVDA duties) so not worried about multi region for DVD. Player will be connected via HDMI to my Yamaha RX-V3800 and I have only 5.1 (B&W speakers). Screen is Panasonic 37 inch Plasma with native resolution of only 720p.

So, is there any reason to buy one rather than the other?

Hi.
Panasonic can do 24p with NTSC DVD (not sure if that's any use to you of course) plus has more picture adjustments over the Sony but that's about it to be honest.
All the best.

Cheers KF. I'll see what's in stock when I go. If both, then I guess I'll go for the Panasonic.

Sony is quite quick to load discs.

Re: Which of these two?

Quick update. Both models really scarce now and hardly any cheaper than newer replacements. Ended up with a BD60 multi region for DVDs (not that that bothers me).

Only if you have the "Quick Start" function enabled though. And that puts your standby power consumption up from 0.3w to 9.3w !! .. not worth it I reckon. I have this option on my 350 switched off.

But you cant go wrong with either one. If I was the OP I would just buy whichever is cheapest.

See post above (ended up with the BD60).

9 watts difference = about 1 KwHr unit every 5 days. Depending on your supplier etc about 25p a week. Might be worth it for some people - depends how "green" you are.
