Aspect Ratio Problem Panasonic DMP-BD35

Folks - I've an LG 42LH4000 TV connected via HDMI to Panansonic DMP-BD35 Bluray player via HDMI to/from a Sony STR-DG820 AV Receiver.

Everything has been working fin until I tried to play the DVD "The Zombie Diaries" which is supposed to have an aspect ratio of "16:9 Full Height Anamorphic"

Nowe the LG TV is set to display "Original" aspect ration from the input source BUT when played the DVD is displayed on the TV with full height Grey Bars to the side and black bars top and bottom.....

What's up ?

the LG status display shows input source to be 16:9 1080p 50Hz.

Thanks,

Try pressing 'option' on the remote. You should get an on-screen menu where you can change the screen aspect?

Indeed I do - but none of the available aspect options remove the vertical Grey Bars - it "looks" as if the recorded video actually has these bars encoded as part of the "16:9" presentation....

Did a google search but couldn't find any other mention of this "problem" with the film.....

Try changing the screen aspect to 'zoom'?
This works for me with the Star wars bonus discs with the original versions of the films (which were non-anamorphic). Fills the screen for me

Hi - using "Cinema Zoom" set to "16" I can get the playback to almost fill the screen - just narrow Grey Bars at the side of the screen - certainly miuch more watchable.

Still interested in hearing if anyone else "knows" what the problem is.

You can turn the grey bars black if that's any help?
Turn OFF players screen saver in menu.

Re: Aspect Ration Problem Panasonic DMP-BD35

Hi there

I,ve had this problem before,I have a pana dmp-bd50 and a ps3 connected to a pio krp 500,the dvd if memory serves right was Pulp fiction this displayed side bars on both machines.
I don,t know what made me try this but putting the disc in the ps3 and knocking the upscaling off,so it was outputting 576i,and letting the tv do the scaling resolved the side bar issue, pity I,d nearly watched all the movie before I thought to try this.
Not sure if you can switch off the upscaling on the pana but thought you might be interested in knowing someone else has had the same problem.
Cheers

Could it be that that particular disc is non-anamorphic, contrary to what it states on the blurb? That will explain the 16:9 ratio but middle of the frame picture!
