DLNA setup for Sony BDP-S560

I recently purchased a Sony BDP-S560 blu ray player. I knew nothing about DLNA until reading the manual for the player. DLNA sounds like a great concept and everything in the manual and online makes it sound like the easiest thing in the world to set up.

I even found video about a bravia TV that has the same menu style as the S560. This video shows DLNA being setup in a matter of seconds.

I have tried Tveristy, Twonky and myiHome DLNA server software with no luck. I have tried with the player setup up with a WiFi connection as well as hard wired with an ethernet cable. I have set up my antivirus software to allow all connections throught the ports the various software used. I have forwarded the ports on my linksys router.

The S560 can see the computer as evidenced when I get into the "Connection Server Settings" screen. I see the MAC address of my desktop computer running the server software. However, when I run "Network Diagnostics" I keep getting a "failed" indication. Also under the photo, video and music tabs all I see is the MAC address of my computer and not an indication that the player is connected to the server software. I cannot access any media on the computer.

I would appreciate any help anyone has. DLNA sounds like a great idea and I would love to able to take advantage of this capability of the S560 but DLNA certainly isn't as easy to set up as everything indicates.

Thank you,
Brian

Re: DLNA setup for Sony BDP-S560

Brian,

Have you tried installing Samsung's PC Share Manager software on your computer? download center SAMSUNG

From reading about the DLNA, it works best with a hard-wired ethernet connection with static IPs assigned to both the player and the computer.

Best regards,

Bryan

Re: DLNA setup for Sony BDP-S560

Poggy,

I bought mine on Amazon.com. It was $25 cheaper than anywhere else. Plus I have Amazon Prime so I got free shipping and no tax.

007Shark,

I will try that software later today. My computer is hard wired and I have tried the player both ways. I was hoping hard wiring it would solve the problem but it didn't.

UPDATE:

I have now gotten the player to connect to Twonky server but when I click on the Twonky server under the photos section of the player I get a yellow triangle and a message that says "No Photo." even though I have plenty of photos that Twonky Media Server sees.

Re: DLNA setup for Sony BDP-S560

Is there an option in Twonky to rescan the directory contents? On my DNLA server, if I don't run this everytime I add stuff it doesn't get picked up by clients. The server holds a database which is what the DNLA clients use to know files are there. They don't look in the actual directories.

Question Re: DLNA setup for Sony BDP-S560

I also have a 560. I use Windows Media player 11, finally got connected, wireless.
Questions, did you get the wireless part working (look on Sony's website in FAQ on how to set it up) Sony's site is lacking in info on more advanced issues.
Then look on Windows site on how to set up the media player part.

This should help you.

Now my questions. All I can send to the player is pictures, no mp3s or MOV or anything else. Reading the fine print in the players user manual it sayes that it does not do mp3s. Why not???? Kind of dumb not too. Got the connection there, why not take advange of it.

Under the Sony menu, it sayes music and Video. why doesn't it work?

Anybody got any ansers?
Thanks

Re: DLNA setup for Sony BDP-S560

You said you allowed the software through your AV software on the PC but to be sure it's not a firewall issue try disabling ALL AV and firewall apps (Inc the windows firewall)

Also check the NTFS permissions of all your shared media; Try adding the everyone group with Read access

I too have just bought a BDP-S560. Connected wirelessly to internet with no problems. "Network Connection Diagnostics" states "Correct connection to the network can be confirmed", but no server appears under "Connection Server settings". I have tried Twonky and have just installed Tversity (after uninstalling Twonky) but can't get either to work. Have clicked on "update server list" but nothing appears.

My desktop PC is hardwired to my router (Linksys WRT54GC ver 2.0). I have ensured that my firewall (Comodo Pro) is set up to allow the media server to accept incoming connections. But S560 still doesn't see the Tversity server! I just don't know what i am doing wrong. I am new to this DLNA thing and it is seriously doing my head in!! I have been at this all day!! Can anybody help or suggest in simple terms what i try next. Thanks.

The sony will only handle Pictures over DNLA, no music or movie files of any kind.

So please make sure you are sharing the right folders.

Yeh I was. Tried WMP11 again today and it worked. Strange thing is thought that the S560 still doesnt see the Tversity server, yet my laptop sees both WMP11 server and Tversity. Oh well at least its working now.
