no signal problem

Hi,
I'm not sure in which forum this should go, so apologies if in the wrong one.
My Sky HD box and Sony blu-ray player have worked fine with my LG LCD for months. I feed the Sky and DVD into a switcher and then into the one HDMI input on the TV. Last weekend, after 6 months of no problems, the TV says "no signal" when the switcher is set to feed signal from the blu-ray dvd. No picture, no sound, no menu, no welcome screen, etc.

Changing cables makes no difference.

Removing the switcher from the equation, and connecting the blu-ray direct to the TV hdmi makes no difference.

The order in which the blu-ray or TV is switched on makes no difference.

The TV takes hdmi from the Sky HD box with no problem, so does this rule out a tv problem ?
The blu-ray player went back to the shop, where it worked fine on more than one shop tv. So that rules out the player ?
Changing cables makes no difference, so that rules out the cable ?

My questions are, firstly, if the player, cable, and TV all seem to be fine, what now is the problem, and why has it turned up after 6 months of perfection ?

and secondly, what should I try now ?

Thanking you all in anticipation...

Welcome to the forum.
Yes that does seem very strange have you tried a reset on the player? hold down the "Stop" button front of player for over ten seconds.
All the best.

Just tried that. No change

I'm very bemused here - normally a process of elimination leads to identification of a fault somewhere, but when everything works with everything else, but doesn't work with my combination, even though it has since xmas, I'm scratching my head....

You haven't updated the players firmware at all?

absolutely not - wouldn't know how to do that anyway.
Have made no changes to anything at all, if I had I could point the finger of suspicion. Literally watched a blu-ray DVD from blockbusters one weekend, fine, next weekend went to blockbusters, got another one, got no signal. Had "no signal" ever since. Not connected or disconnected anything, or dropped anything... It's literally a case of it all worked fine one minute, and now it doesn't.

Anyway, if you could just let me know the location of the secret fix_it button....

Thanks. Unfortunately it's not under guarantee. However, if the TV has a problem with HMDI switching, how come it works fine with the HDMI from the Sky box ? I'm not saying you don't have the solution, I'm just curious as to how the TV can be blamed when it receives into the same connection from Sky HD with no problem.

A long shot, but have you tried reversing the HDMI cable from the TV to the Blu-ray player - it shouldn't make a difference, I know.....

Can you hook up via component see if you can get video and maybe check through some settings?

Re: no signal problem

Do you get the same issue when using a different HDMI
input on the TV?

There are only 3 components here, the TV, the lead and the player so i would try taking the player with your lead round to another TV perhaps a neighbours or mates etc. I know you have had it at the shop but you didnt say whether it was with your HDMI lead or not. This should help to narrow the 3 components down a bit.

The only other thing i can think of is that a TV setting has been changed (by the kids maybe?) perhaps its got 24fps switched off or maybe they have put it into NTSC mode or something like that so the TV cannot see the Bluray signal. I am not familiar with your kit but just trying to help by thinking out loud as it were.....

My Sony TV sometimes says unsupported audio signal but but after a few seconds it catches up and everything is normal.

Let us know how you get on.

reversing the cable, or using a different cable, has no effect.

At the shop it worked with my lead, and worked with other leads. This is the problem - all components seem to work happily with everything else, but not with each other.

If the TV settings had been changed, wouldn't that stop the TV from working with the Sky HD ?

Re: no signal problem

The Sky box will be outputting 1080/50i, the Blu-ray player probably set to output 1080/50P or 1080/60P - twice the data bandwidth of the Sky box. So any failing in the cable quality or TV's HDMI input could produce this problem, also it's possible that the TV can't actually handle 50P and 60P signals.

If you press the stop button on the player for more than ten seconds, it will reset the output resolution to standard definition, then if that works you can go into the menus and increase it until such point as it stops working.
