Exclamation Panasonic BD 60 to Themescene HD80

I have just got the Panasonic BD60 does anybody know how to switch on the 24 fps on the player,I have it connected via HDMI to my Denon 2808 and that in turn is connected to my HD80 which is 1080p.

I have tried to plug the projector HDMI straight into the back of the player but it is not recognising it and I cannot switch it on.

Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions

There was a software issue with the HD80 that resulted in it only working with forced 1080p/24. I seem to recall it was related to EDID and caused issues with devices that use this to detect 1080p/24 capability. I believe it was fixed but involved sending the unit back to Optoma. So if you're not sure if the fix has been applied this is the first thing I'd check.

Thank you for your reply AVI ...I only got the HD80 in December last year and I am sure it has the software update, as I had no problems with the Samsung BD-1400 that died recently I could just go into settings and select 1080p/24 no problem.

I got the BD60 as it has had some excellent reviews and it was an upgrade from my previous player, sorry to sound dim but how do I force the 1080p/24 is it from the BD60 when it wont even let me select 24 from the BD60 menu it says only if the device is connected to a source that has 1080p/24 and I know the HD80 is 1080p/24

The BD60 sets most options using EDID so you have little or no control once "it" makes a decision on something unless you can manipulate EDID. AFAIK there isn't a "force 1080p/24" option on this player and the fact that the 1080p/24 option isn't selectable suggest EDID may be your root issue. There appears to be a difference between the way products use EDID hence some work some don't under certain conditions.

Thanks for the advice AVI, I really appreciate your time and comments.

It sounds like I may as well see if I can send the player back then, and get a cheap Samsung player that will let me select the 1080p/24 option.

Its a shame I did't know this before I bought the player that there may be compatibility issues with certain equipment.

Personally I try to avoid players that offer little output control and set most things via EDID. I've found they often cause more problems than they solve. IIRC (but do double check!) the current Sony models offer forced 1080p/24 option just in case. I did find the BD60 has technically better Blu-ray image performance in some areas compared to the Sony in my setup but that was forcing the BD60 to 4:2:2 output by manipulating EDID.

I contacted today the company I got the player off and was told by them to try the obvious things I had already tried,
I don't think I will be able to send it back to get a refund due to the incompatibilty issues caused by this EDID.
I will just have to right off the cost £300 even though I have only just got it this week and put it down to experience

I don't mind you asking AVI, it was online but the company do have a shop, I have tried again with no success to get it working.

I have contacted the shop and they are getting a courier to come and pick the player up on Monday, they think its the machine I don't think it is,so I want a refund.

I have spoken to a friend who works at a AV retailer and they tired to get the same player working in the shop with a 19inch Samsung LCD TV and it worked they were able to select the 1080p/24 output.

Are there any lists out there of players that are incompatible with my HD80 or any players that I can freely select 1080p/24 on as I would like to upgrade my player.

If you purchased online, mail order of via the telephone you are covered by distance selling regulations. This provides a 7 working day period that commences the day following delivery in which you can choose to cancel your contract for any reason. Providing you have taken reasonable care of the item and have the original packaging etc the retailer must refund you in full within 30 days (postage may not be refundable depends on the T&C's).

If you meet the above criteria just inform the retailer by email that you wish to return the good for a full refund as is your right.

I'm not aware of a list but you might want to try the PJ thread. The current Sony's allow forced 1080p/24 even if the display doesn't support it.
