DVD Upscaling question (Samsung)

Hey guys,

I got sick and tired of rubbish Xbox 360 playback so I decided to buy a seperate player. After pretty much a bit of pin-sticking I settled on the Samsung DVD1080P9.

I run my Sky, Xbox, PC etc through a CA 340R ACR and it's linked up with components. However, I've read that the upscaling mode in most DVD's only work via HDMI cable - is this correct?

If so, is there any way to upscale through components? I heard that the reason they only upscale through HDMI is so it can block copyrighted material or something?

Any advice welcome please, would be nice to upscale the DVD player via component, if not, I'll have to think of another option.

Cheers.
