Hi all
Having some success transferring dad's old VHS tapes onto DVD - which is excellent, I'm actually shocked at how much success I'm having with cheap discs (although I'd not be surprised if they'll rot in a few years, so I'm also keeping a couple of HDDs with all the video footage on them).
However, the Pioneer DVD/HDD recorder I bought him for his birthday a few years back (DVR-420HS) refuses to play the discs. It says 'LOADING' for about 15 seconds, whirrs a bit, then says 'CAN'T PLAY' and spits it back out

. The only other player in the house (a cheap Acoustic Solutions model which Argos no longer stock) plays them perfectly.
So, I'm going to get him a second DVD player - just something cheap, for playing back these VHS > DVD+R DL transfers. Doesn't need to be anything major, doesn't need upscaling as it's for an SD set, and doesn't need any surround sound at all, the audio is purely 2.0.
Can anyone recommend a set, ideally on the high street (part of a father's day thing for him - need here by Saturday), which will *definitely* play standard dual layer DVD+R recordings?
I don't really want to go out and buy say an Argos one, on the off chance it doesn't work with these discs, as I'll be too honest to go back to them and say it doesn't work with my DVD+Rs.
Cheers in advance for any recommendations
