Thanks for all the replies. Does this mean 'Snow White' is currently the only reported Tevion-incompatible title? Does anyone know if it works with any of the Tevion's close relatives, or with the F&H?

So no problems with playback once started? (e.g. pausing, or showing the timeline, or issues with subsequent attempts to play, as some owners of other machines affected by Avatar's BD+ have reported).

nope, the movie played perfectly. I haven't tried playing it a 2nd time but it wouldn't make a difference to me as i don't have a usb stick or network cable in mine so it can't do any BD+ stuff

A friend of mine is selling his as he has just got a new player with his TV. He has never updated or done anything to this player update wise as he mainly plays DVD's and uses Sky for HD.

So are these still worth buying? I dont want to buy it and then not be able to play the latest Blu's and no possibiltiy of firmware updates from any compatible machines momitsu etc.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

i'd say it's worth it, it's played everything i've thrown at it, region a and b, which is more than can be said for most of the big brand players which have needed firmware updates to play titles like Avatar.

Hi Folks,

I brought home a toshiba player from the US to play region A titles but unfortunately it didn't survive the trip - I was going to get it repaired but I reckon it's be as cheap and more convenient to get one of these players - I know this thread is fairly old but are there any UK retailers still selling any of the players mentioned here?

Cheers,

Andy

Hi all

My unit is having problems playing a few new discs, mainly Sherlock Holmes and Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs (3D Blu Ray version-obviously its the 2d version that I have the problem with as i know the unit is not 3D!!!)

The picture seems to freeze and jump and pixelate a lot. Not having problems with all my other discs, even Avatar plays flawlessley.

My question is, is there an update available for this machine as I cannot seem to find one. There is one on the CURTIS INTERNATIONAL - manufacturer and distributor of quality consumer electronic products website for the Curtis DVD1100uk but not the Tevion. Im afraid to use this one just in case!!

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Hi.
AFAIK there has never been an update for the Tevion.

I wouldn't use the Curtis one because it uses different remote codes and will change or ignore button presses from your Tevion remote.

Don't flash the DVD1100UK firmware! - It will brick your player. Or at least something like it makes the remote unusable. Someone did it further back on this thread, or a previous one I think and got a bit upset about it.

Anyway, it's not Tevion firmware. There is no firmware update as far as I know, and frankly I haven't seen any reason for one. The only problems people have been having seem to be related to faulty discs or players, as others have no problems with the same discs, which indicates it's not a firmware issue.

Problems from this cheap player

Hi i bought 2 of these, 1 for myself for region a playback and 1 for my uncle. (from ebay seller)

both are crap. Why?

Put a blu ray on and within minutes the picture freezes. Stop it start it and within minutes it does the same thing.

I've cleaned the lenses (not the problem)

can anyone point me in the right direction to getting these players working properly or are they both dud with dead lasers?

Maybe that's why they were on ebay

If you'd bought them from Aldi you'd have got a 3 year warranty.

If it's under guarantee, you should get a refund. A product has to be fit for purpose. A Bluray player which fails to properly show BR discs isn't fit for purpose.

I found the receipt this morning, still under a year old as it was bought in Nov 2009. Going to ring them this morning and find out what to do about it. Will keep everyone informed!

Firmware upgrade dvd1100ukt tevion

I have succesfully downloaded (around May this year) and installed a firmware upgrade specifically for the for the Tevion player following problems being unable to play certain titles eg Snow White.

After the upgrade the player works fine and plays every title I've bought including Avatar. I also succesfully upgraded my sisters player.

The firmware update was downloaded from the curtistint.com website but it now appears to have been removed, looks like they are discontinuing support.

I do have a copy of this upgrade if anyone is interested and willing to try it at own risk.

Hi.
I would like a copy of this firmware to try please. I would pay for postage etc.

Do you know if the machine retains the multi-region option for Blu-ray after the update has been done?

Fair play, Aldi are a joke! I would never buy technology from them again. The girl ive been speaking to is a right muppet!

Firstly i called, and was transferred to Swindon head office, about a firmware upgrade to be able to play newer titles as I have been having issues. She told me that she has never heard of such a thing and that her husband has never had to do it with his. Bully for him! She also stated,"But then he doesnt have this model!" Yes-he's sensible!

So she agreed to email Curtis International for them to call me. The unit is under 12 months old!

I had a call from Ontario - Canada and was told NOT to download any firmware for this as it is more likely to hinder than help. He then offered a replacement, but told me the same model is no longer available but he could send me a lower model, profile 1.1. No way was ai going to accept this and so he said he would authorise a refund for me.

When I spoke to the girl at Aldi again, I was given a different story, that no refund was authorised and I had to accept the replacement offered. I went beserk and told her no way am i paying more for a less capable model. She has referred my case to HO again (after telling me again that her husband never used BD LIve anyway - do i care??!!).

Also their refund policy is crazy! I cant just go back to the store, apparantly it has to be authorised in their Head Office, and then I assume I go back to the store then. It can take up to 14 days.

This company is a joke (my opinion only!) and I would advise to stay away from them if you don't want future hassle!

Will let you know how this pans out!

Sure it was the correct firmware? The only one that's been on there is the non UK Tevion, and by all reports the remote stops working correctly with that. There hasn't been a DVD1100UKT firmware.

Though maybe they posted it and there were problems with it so they pulled it.

Odd that a firmware fix was required in your case when others have had no problems playing the same titles on the same player. You definitely have the DVD1100UKT model?

This the file downloaded May 2010 from Curtis website, note the T in file name.

CUR_DVD1100UKT_FW_UPGRADE.rar

The link has indeed been removed but I can only reiterate the upgrade worked for me on 2 players.

2 players having problems playing Snow White, Avatar where both upgraded and work fine inc remote.

Not sure about multi-region as I only have UK disks.

Anyone further interested in the upgrade email me at ericmackley@hotmail.com

Ejmc kindly provided me with a link for the firmware, which works fine on my Tevion DVD-1100UKT.

It does remove the multi-region Blu-ray capabilities of this player though, the same as recent upgrades for similar players has done, so if you want to keep MR, don't upgrade!

Just picked up a 'grade B cosmetic condition' refurbished Curtis dvd1100uk off god old ebay for £40. Just wanted a cheap player for the bedroom, and as it was from power seller with 1000s of feedback and the unit coming with a warrenty, decided it would be worth a £40 gamble.

Anyway, been playing about with it today, and I can't believe the price I paid!!! The picture quality is fantastic, just as good as any Blu-Ray I have ever seen. So far its played without hassle every disc iv'e tried without hassle too. The thing sure does look like a throw-back to cold war era technology, but I can't really complain.

Still feel like £40 is a ridculous, posbbily too good to be true price. Not sure how long the unit will last, but right now im happy

Has anyone tried the new UK disc for Peeping Tom in this player? I've had two from Amazon and the message 'disc error' comes up and the disc is then ejected. Just wondering if it's a faulty batch of discs or if it's a problem with the player - I haven't had any problems with anything else I've chucked at it.

Won't be upgrading mine then as multi-region is the very reason I bought it (and the very reason I won't buy any non multi-region player).

Haven't had any reason to complain so far. It's played everything. Though I'm not into Snow White (and Avatar I couldn't give a crap about. 3D gimmick and really pointless outside of the cinema on 2D).

The firmware update was downloaded from the curtistint.com website but it now appears to have been removed, looks like they are discontinuing support.

I do have a copy of this upgrade if anyone is interested and willing to try it at own risk.
Please can you provide a copy of the upgrade.

Thanks

3 year warranty. Just point them to trading standards. Your rights are supreme. Though as always with UK consumer law, the retailer is primarily responsible, not the manufacturer.

FYI, all still there. Just need to go to the bottom under 'more' and then to support and downloads.

Or this link - http://www.curtisint.com/html/CustSe...FW_UPGRADE.ZIP

Image is dated 2009-05-17, so pretty old anyway.

Anyway, just thought I'd check. Don't have any problems that need it really aside from on episode of The Prisoner on BR which freezes in a number of places but I think that may be a defect in the disc. No other disc has had a problem, though I don't buy many Blu Rays these days.

And still, if this is region limited, then no go.
