Sony DAV-DZ260 - does oneforall hack work?

Hi there,
I have owned 3 different Sony dvd players over the last 7 years and have been able to make them all multiregion with a very simple hack using a one-for-all remote control which I found online (despite numerous claims on the web that it’s impossible to do this with Sony dvd players!).

I am interested in the Sony DAV-DZ260 but can’t find any reference to a hack for this particular model. Chances are, the same hack will work, and there are shops selling multi-region models, but I was wondering if anyone on the forum had actually done this themselves?

Sorry if it's a dumb question, but it'd just be nice to know that someone's actually done the hack with this particular model as the multi-region ready models are priced at around £30 more than the standard ones, so I'd obviously rather do it myself if I can!!!

Or do I just try another sysytem at the same price for a change, like the Philips HTS3357 which I know is multi-region?

Think you are mis-reading these claims online you refer to - its generally stated everywhere that you cannot hack sony models via codes entered WITH THEIR OWN REMOTE (which is true). Not that you cannot hack them by other means, including clones of the factory service remote commands...

I've managed it today with a OneForAll URC-8040 Kameleon.

I used these instructions from a different Sony model (but slightly changed). On the kameleon the DVD button doesn't flash, instead it's the arrows at the top which show the signal being transmitted:

If I say the DVD button blinks twice, it must do this, if it does not you must try the sequence again and again until it does blink twice.

To start (this bit refers to the OneForAll URC-8040 Kameleon):
1. Select DVD device on remote
2. Hold the 'Magic' button until the DVD button blinks twice
3. Enter device code 0533 (DVD button blinks twice)

You then need to individually program buttons 1 through 5 with the following codes:


To program Button 1
1. Hold 'Magic' button until the DVD button blinks twice
2. Press 994 (DVD button blinks twice)
3. Press 'Magic' once
4. Enter 5 digit code 00189
5. Finally press button 1 which will then program it (DVD button blinks twice)


To program Button 2
1. Hold 'Magic' button until the DVD button blinks twice
2. Press 994 (DVD button blinks twice)
3. Press 'Magic' once
4. Enter 5 digit code 00255
5. Finally press button 2 which will then program it (DVD button blinks twice)


To program Button 3
1. Hold 'Magic' button until the DVD button blinks twice
2. Press 994 (DVD button blinks twice)
3. Press 'Magic' once
4. Enter 5 digit code 00095
5. Finally press button 3 which will then program it (DVD button blinks twice)


To program Button 4
1. Hold 'Magic' button until the DVD button blinks twice
2. Press 994 (DVD button blinks twice)
3. Press 'Magic' once
4. Enter 5 digit code 00221
5. Finally press button 4 which will then program it (DVD button blinks twice)


To program Button 5
1. Hold 'Magic' button until the DVD button blinks twice
2. Press 994 (DVD button blinks twice)
3. Press 'Magic' once
4. Enter 5 digit code 00079
5. Finally press button 5 which will then program it (DVD button blinks twice)


Please note this next bit didn't seem to work for me as it should have.

Then finally:
1. Remove any disk, put player on standby
2. Press 1,2,3,4,5 - player starts up.
3. Press 1,2,3,4,5 - player shuts down and it says timer ok

Basically I tried it as above and nothing happened so I switched the machine on and tried again, nothing again so tried once more and still nothing as described above, HOWEVER, I then tried a Region 1 disc and it worked! So somewhere in there it worked but dunno if it was when it was switched off or switched on?

Thanks for that Bubba. Tried it today with a One for all URC7556 5 in 1 Remote Control (less than £20 from amazon) and it worked a treat.

Only thing is the last bit I tried doing 1,2,3,4,5 with the system on standby and like you say it doesn't respond. So I powered it up and after it had started up and was telling me it had no disc I did 1,2,3,4,5 and the display registers and starts doing all sorts. I just waited for it to settle, put in a region 1 disc and pretso! So I am now flavour of the month with my relative whose system it is - many thanks

Hello all together !
I've also tried to hack the DAV DZ260 since weeks.
Now I did it !
I only had to press 1,2,3,4,5 once with the player
on. In the display you can read "wait" and "reading"
for some time after entering the codes.
And than it's regionfree.
The mistake I made was the following :
In some threads you can read : search the right code for
your player to operate it. In my case it's 1824.
I thougt that I have to enter this number instead of "0533".
That was my mistake ! You have to enter 0533 !

Theres a program for the psp called irshell, it allows you to use your psps ir port to control things, like a one for all remote, you can also program your own, by saving it as a text file, but i am confused how this works, so if anyone can help me it would be apprieciated. I actually want to use it to make my dav dz260 region free and i was thinking that if it allows you to program it yourself maybe i can program it with the code that bubba shaboo gave out. google ir shell and the guide is in the forums part but it just mind boggles me, maybe someone with a better knowledge can work it out.

just in case anyone needs it. It worked a treat, you press the sequence on standby then turn it on then repeat, but make sure that when you turn it on it goes to DVD not tv or radio, it will take a while to load the first time, it will flash please wait for ages then make some weird noises then my r1 version of No Country for Old Men played like a dream.

After simply buying a US DVD the other day, and searching about 20 minutes ago on how to make my Home Cinema player Multi-region, I have just done it!

What code did you use to get the remote to sync in the first place?
I've tried all the Sony DVD ones with no luck. I have the same remote as you (URC-7556)

I have a URC9960 which unfortunately lacks the magic key. Does anyone know how to program

I have a One4All remote control URC 3450 and you can work with it.
The codes are all right, but in my case the regional code modification works only with switched ON player.

I did the following:
  1. the above codes are all right and for the URC 3450 you need the 5 digit codes and NOT the 3 digit codes.
    The Led flashed not on DVD Button, flashed on POWER Button.
  2. Remove disc from the player
  3. Don't switch off the player and start with the code (1,2,3,4,5) sending.
    I did this twice. Could be possible that this works with onetime sendig.
  4. Switch OFF the player into Standby
  5. I start the codes twice also. I am not sure is this necessary.
  6. Switch ON the player and put in a DVD with different Regional Code and it works

i have the DAV-DZ260 and programmed the remote exactly as bubba described.

the only thing i did different was input 1,2,3,4,5 on the remote with the dvd player switched ON. the display said 'reading' a few times then reverted back to 'no disc'

as a result it now plays region 1 dvds.

How can I make Sony DAV-DZ260 region free with One4All 8350

Hello guys,

I have looked at the trick Bubba gave to make the dvd player Sony DAV-DZ260 regionfree but I have a OneForAll remote (8350) which does not have a 'Magic' button.

I have tried pressing 1,2,3,4,5 with the player switched ON and OFF, I have tried doing 1,2,3,4,5 and OK while ON or OFF, but it doesn't work.

I have set up the remote control with the instructions given in the manual.

Does anyone have a clue how I can get this dvd player region free with the OneForAll 8350 remote ?
It has the TV, DVD, STB, AUDIO buttons but no Magic button.

Howdy,

Been getting rather annoyed with trying to unlock my DAV-DZ260 for multi region and was hoping that one of you kind souls could help me?! I have got the One for All Kameleon 8 URC-8308 and can't get it working with the details above. I have tried the five digit codes being programmed into both '0533' and a code which responds to my DZ260 to no avail.

Is there something that I should be doing differently? Does anyone know what these codes represent in terms of service items as One for All state that they will give me the code for the service item but I don't know the service items!

Any help is much appreciated as I really fancy watching some region 1 DVDs and they aren't available on region 2 (and likely never will be).

You need to programme the five different codes, then take your player out of standby (using original remote), press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, in sequence and power down player using standby on original remote. If this doesn't work try the same but 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5.

None of the other buttons will do much if the remote has been programmed correctly.

No luck after trying again this evening, tried both options that you gave me Mentm. The Kameleon 8 only has 4 programmable buttons, but I have shift loaded the fifth botton to the red key which I don't think should cause a problem? I made sure that the remote was set to output 0533 before doing it (which gets no response from the DZ260). It's really doing my nut in, usually I am pretty good with technology and able to sort stuff out on my own but this has me stumped!

I've just bought the Kameleon 8040 to unlock my dz260, i tried the 0533 code but that does not let me control the dvd player, however the 1503 code does, but after i've programmed all 5 and doing the 1,2,3,4,5 thing, it still does not go to region free, where am i going wrong?

Nevermind, I tried it again and it worked, i must of pressed a wrong button somewhere the first few times but did it slowly and it now plays Region 1 =)
