HI,

I have the same problem with an older firmware, my version is 021507.02.87iHVXEXEG (bought on april 2007)

I tried several cds and cd-rw at different speeds and with different burning programs (nero, burnatonce, roxio, magiciso, cdburner) and the result is always the same i have a message "this disc cannnot be played".

When i put mp3s or a movie on the same cds they're readable, so it's no a burning or a cd quality issue, i think that the dvd player is expecting a specific file that he cannot find on the cd.

Does someone know what files to put on the cds ?

Is there a method for burning the cd (iso 9660 or joliet, disc at once or track at once ? multissession or not ?)

Do i have to put a dummy file on the cds ?

Thanks for your help

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

I have burned the files to disks. I will be trying them tommorow. I converted the iso (I hope its the correct one) to a disk. it created 2 files one called Update.ver and the other called Build.img. you can check your disk and see if they are there. One file I downloaded also had a file called dummy.zzz.

I will post my results. I am still looking for the "correct" update file just in case I get the player going right. I will post my results.

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

I have the same firmware as ludwig. I have also had the same issue with burning the disks. For what ever reason the player dosnt seem to want to recognise the update files on the disks.

research continues. I also tried closing the session. no luck

I have burned to both cd-r and dvd+R. with the same message on the screen. Page 7 of the owners manual indicates the type of disks that can be played. I wonder if we are running into trouble here??

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

no ... this doesn't work. i burned the ISO to a CDR (whatever that means) and - as a previous writer says - it just thinks its a CD and the music menu appears. it doesn't say "loading". it doesn't turn itself off. it doesn't ask for a language. i can get the 2 to change to a 9 - that's easy .... but it still won't play the dvds properly. hmmmmmm..........

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

got mine in charlton too - hack successful; but... i had to press Repeat so that the No Disc display goes off - then type in the 57538 code - that worked!! if you type it whilst No Disc is displayed - it doesnt work - hope this helps

only problem i have now is hdmi out displays with a major pink tinge - i suspect its the cable but it worked fine on my pc using hdmi to DVI... no settings to change and on composite it is fine...

thanks again for the hack though

Colleagues with version 04 "downgraded" to 03 to apply multi-region hack but same trick works with version 05 so there's no necessity to downgrade.
What am I missing using the 03 firmware rather than the 05?

Is there a download for the 05?

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

I brought my player last week. I am now in the Caymans (Region 1, I think) but most of my DVD's are from the UK, region 2.

There is an additional firmware as installed in my HD870 which I cannot find reference to on any forums. That firmware is....

052107.02.87iHXEXAA

I have tried all the hack instructions listed here and elsewhere and have also tried to downgrade the firmware and absolutely nothing works. If anyone has a hack for this firmware I would be most grateful.

Thanks
Lorraine

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

I posted this question on another forum ...

I have scoured the internet to find the unlock code for the above player and while I have found several, none of the codes posted work. Now I think it is because of the firmware I have installed which is

052107.02.87iHXEXAA

I have found mention of downgrading ones firmware by loading an ISO file after buring it to disc. I have tried this also, but the DVD does not recognise the CD when it is it inserted into the player.

Any assistance you can offer me to unlock this player would be greatly appreciated.

This was the reponse I received...

"This player is known for not being able to be downgraded. The player needs to see a .bin file and there is remote code to input to flash it".

So now my question is does anyone know what this .bin file is? I have asked the same question on the other site and will let you know the answer if I get one.

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

Got my HD870 today and it was multi region out of the box.
This is where I was stupid............ I didn't read this thread until I had downloaded the firmware beginning 050807.04 etc.
Applied that and guess what, not multi region. Tried everything and many button combinations not mentioned. No luck
Thankfully I read this thread and I downgraded to 030907.03 and all is well again.

Phew

Just like to say, best sub £40 player I have bought

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

I've just bought my 870 (R2) from Comet Guildford (16 Jan 08) and have read through the whole thread.

I've tried the original hack which seemed to work fine... everything as described, but.........

After the hack, I got audio from R1 disks but no picture... then guess what... same for R2 disks!

After much angst and reading of forums and resetting to factory defaults, the solution was to remove the plug after completing the hack. Once the power was restored, everything worked fine.

BTW my firmware is 080307.05.87iHXEXEG

Hope this helps someone.

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

Hi, not sure if this is the right place but can anyone tell me if the hack also enables this machine to play my dvds which I've backed up from the originals (ie copied dvds)

It will read a dvd with a divx film on but not if I use dvd shrink and put the usual video_ts & audio_ts folders onto it.

Any help would be great as it's doing my bulb in.

Cheers

I bought the same machine (region code 1) but with an older version of firmware (030807.03.87iHXEXAA). I treid to use the above mention hack to remove the regional coding and, after many attempts, it did not work. I thought it was my burning program and tried to load many of the in the above link named firmware upgrades just to test if one would work.

The only firmware that I could load on my machine is version 052107.02.87iHXEXAA. Which brings me basically in the same situation as you: the hack still does not work: the "no disk" still appears in the left corner and the regional code still does not show on screen.

The only lesson learned is that my burning software is OK (if you burn at 600kb) and that my player only reads limited firmware versions.

What we need is a special hqck version for Regional 1 players I I don't know how to do that.

HELP!!!!! ......................Please

Yep, same thing here, seems to be an issue with the US (region1) version of the HD870.

Got loads of Brit (region2) DVDs I'd like to watch but it seems like the 030807.03.87iHXEXAA Firmware is a bit tighter. What ever I try I can't get the 'No Disc' caption to disappear and therefore cannot even try the codes.

I've also downloaded other firmware versions, some discs aren't recognised, some go to the music menu...Also tried using different burning software and different burn speeds, nothing works.

There must be someone clever enough out there to figure out how to set us US owners region free...?

The cheapest option might just be to go and buy a $20 Durabrand to hack and use for everything other than region1 movies...

Question Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

Since it seems to be impossible to find a hack through this site browsed some other site.

DVDExploder claims they have over 2000 codes including the samsung HD870.

According to them It would not be a problem to hack the region 1 version. Does anyone have any experience with this group? I don't mind paying few bucks, but I want to be sure they don't run away with it.

-turn ON your DVD/ NO DISC should be displayed/
-open&close tray/ NO DISC appears again/it won't disappear
-press REPEAT/you will have a red circle in the corner but keep going anyway
-press 29334 if you have R1DVD/ I didn't have any nr appearing on the screen/
-press 9
-press ENTER/ wait for a few seconds/
-turn OFF DVD
Good luck!!!

I did it using 57538 "trick" without problems. I need to press twice that code but it worked for me.
"No disk"-> Press "repeat" -> "No disk" disappears -> Type 57538 -> Type 57538 -> It appears a "2" on left corner -> Press "9" -> It appears "9" on left corner -> Shut down.

I had the same luck. But I have nothing but B/W video.
with my old Kiss player there were colors, with my recent Sony NS-300 I had no Region 1 playback but yesterday I bought a cheap player by United that was already regionfree. It played my 13th Warrior disc right away in color.
I spent nearly an hour trying to get the code to work but after typing the number ins twice it does say 2 changing it no 9 allows playback but everything is B/W. Usually when this happens I set my tv to alter the mode of the AV channel and be S-VHS compatible (or something) and it will work.
Kiss works that way, united work normally so this one is just outputting B/W image.
Is this behaviour normal for the Samsungs?

The solution s not to go back to the United. It is flimsy to the point that it took several attempts to get the plastic door to move out of the way, so the tray could eject, the remote was flimsy and required good aiming even with fresh batteries. So not being something for older people when I lend it to my parents I had to swap for this Samsung at twice the price. The eject was twitchy at times not working and I was lucky to get my disc out before I had to pack and get to the shop in time for closing today. Still with the Samsung I only seem to have solved one problem to get another.

Any suggestions from the panel?

-Mikkel

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

Is there a way to switch off HDCP please? Multi region works terrifically but my TV has DVI and claims to be HDCP compliant, yet I get a strange pink tinge and when connected to a monitor I get no display at all. I tried another cable = same issue... Many thanks:

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

hum - seems switching the TV from RGB to YUV fixed it all. Got to say, the image improvement from composite to HDMI (1080i) is barely noticable.. interestingly, I got snow if I tried to use 580p, 720p worked fine and 1080i too... odd.. is there a big difference between rgb and yuv then? RGB left the red on leaving a red tint...

I bought my player a couple of weeks ago and had already the newest Firmware on it.

After coming across this forum and read about downgrading the Firmware to the 30*** with the zip from that Polish samsung page, i came across a suprising failure.

After downgrading i had green lines appearing all the time when in 576p, white little dots at 720p ( not realy bad ) and the same but more less on 1080i.

But after switching to 1080i and upgrading it back to the newest Firmware this problem was solved.

My guess is, that the old firmware is not very cappable with the HDMI. So i guess i have to stick with the hard setted region code till some new trick is out.

My Player is connected via HDMI to my TFT. Firstly i tought it could be due to settings on the TFT. But sadly after testing it on some other Displays the problem was still there.

Oh well. I no longer care about the region-free as long as i can watch Movies on my TFT

[quote=rogerbest;5500712]I had purchased a Samsung HD870, quote]the guy at the shop said that I could make it region free if I installed the old firmware. I followed the instructions and the first time I had to unplug it because it froze (it froze in the total and cancel menu because I hit right to make sure it was on total). After restarting it I put the disc in again and just pushed enter and it started to load. After a minute or so the tray opened and I pulled out the disc and it turned off. I restarted it and then followed the normal instruction pushing repeat and then entering the 57538 code ( I had to enter it a couple of times) then I saw a 2 and pushed 9, turned the dvd player off and then on and presto! I can watch all my American dvds again.

Re: samsung dvd hd 870 multi region hack

Hi, I also own the HD870 with firmware version 052107.02.87iHXEXAA.

I´ve tried all the hacks and burned a few CDs but did not successed in turning it into Multiregion.

Was anyone able to do it with the XAA version?

Tks
Fabio
