Toshiba BDX1100, DVD and BD region changeable

There is a way to make your Toshiba BDX1100KB or BDX1100KE play region A blu-rays. What you can do is to install the region A firmware. It sounds like much work but it is actually done in about half a minute (if you use SD-card).

First I will recommend you to upgrade to the latest version (V50) if you are not already there.

For Toshiba BDX1100KB:
Toshiba : Download Centre : BDX1100KB

For Toshiba BDX1100KE:
Toshiba : Download Centre : BDX1100KE

Save the 2 files you get from running the exe-file to a subfolder called UPG_ALL on a CD or SD-card. Put it in your player and do the upgrade if you are on a lower version number. Label the CD or SD-card 'Region B'.

Then download the V50 region A firmware:
https://rapidshare.com/files/8305187...00_RegionA.zip
Unzip the firmware file within the zip file to a folder called UPG_ALL on another CD or SD-card. Label it 'Region A'.

When you want to play a region A blu-ray (or region 1 DVD), put first the CD or SD-card in the player and change the region. It will stay region A until you change it back to region B by using the CD or SD-card with region B firmware.

As Jasiel says in a post further down, there is also a possibility to flash the BDX1100 with BDX1105 regionfree firmware. Making the player regionfree for both DVD and blu-ray. Instructions and link to firmware can be found in this thread:
Toshiba BDX1100, regionfree DVD and multiregion BD

Good day,

Do you by chance know if the same/similar trick can be applied to the Toshiba BDX2500 model? Thanks.

I don't think BDX2500 was ever released in Europe, so you will probably not find any region B firmware for that model. If there was such a firmware, I'm sure the trick would work on that player too.

For the price of these players I would be tempted to buy a second one just for region A.

Thanks Viking61

I recently did the above to my Toshiba BDX1100KY (Australian model) in an attempt to play a Region A Blu-ray disc. Problem is that it now won't play at least one of my Region 4 DVDs, as the UK Firmware sets the DVD Region to 2.

I've seen a lot of people saying they received a disc with their player that allowed to make it Multi-region for DVDs and region switchable for Blu-ray (as in enter the setup code 8520 and simply switch the blu-ray region). I can't recall seeing such a disc when I bought it, but I may have just ignored it.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

There doesn't seem to be an Australian version of the firmware.

I would contact Toshiba Australia and ask them to send you the V50 firmware for the BDX1100KY. If you get it, please tell us if it also makes your player regionfree.

Thanks Viking. I've just emailed Toshiba AV Tech support for Australia. Unfortunately, they closed for the weekend about 4 hours ago, so I'll have to wait until next week before I get a reply....

I know there is a region free firmware for the BDX1105KY, and that machine is almost identical to the BDX1100KY. If you somehow manage to get hold of that firmware, I would try installing it on your machine.

Therein lies the problem - I've done numerous google searches trying to find any aus firmware for the bdx11 series, and can't find anything.

Does anyone have the firmware for either bdx1100ky or 1105ky and is willing to share?

Typical customer service... Here is the guts of the email response from Toshiba Support:

"Thank you for your inquiry.

There is no firmware update on a website where a customer could download and update it. Please follow the link below to find the nearest service and you may take the unit to them or give them a call.

http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/service-centres "

Turns out my brother works for one of their service agents, but even he is having trouble getting the firmware....

Hi all,

I now have the BDX1105KY Aus firmware, which has worked in my BDX1100KY player. It is now fully region switchable...

I have a BDX1100KU (USA version). My HDTV is a typical unit sold in North America that supports analog NTSC signals but not analog PAL (or digital ATSC but not digital DVB-T).

When loaded with US firmware, the BDX1100KU converts region 0 (free) PAL DVD signals to NTSC which can be displayed on my HDTV; when a region 2 PAL DVD is inserted, region error message appears. When loaded with UK/EU firmware, a region 2 PAL DVD is accepted but video output is also PAL (without conversion to NTSC) and thus can not be displayed on my HDTV although audio can be heard.

I tried both the digital HDMI and analog RCA video outputs and changed video output formats but no success. However, I am able to view video using my old analog video monitor as it supports both PAL and NTSC.
