Novice seeking expert advice - Sony DAV-DZ1000

Sony Home AV DAV-DZ1000 - Sonystyle.com.hk

Have this model on the way to me in China from Hong Kong right now. Want to make sure I can play my hundreds of Region 1 DVD's once it arrives.

If it arrives and is encoded Region 3 (Hong Kong) or Region 6 (China), how might I remedy this situation?

I have done very basic unlocks in the past, where the factory remote was enough to get the job done. Though it seems by looking around, that some Sony models are considerably more difficult to 'hack'.

Assuming that the DAV-DZ1000 is similar to other DAV-DZ's, is my only option to pick up a programmable remote next time I am in the Western hemisphere?

Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Edit: Surprisingly, it arrived already region-free. Region 3 is printed on the back of the receiver, but it has no trouble playing my Region 1 discs. Not sure the reason for this, but I am not complaining. Now I don't feel so rushed in buying a Harmony 1000/1100.
