Answering my own query
a) Get 6000.ISO from post http://www.avforums.com/forums/blu-r...l#post10787218
b) Burn to a CD (I used CopyToDVD, but have used the free s/w Imgburn in the past too)
c) Load CD into BD390 and it should come up "Region Code 2" - use the up/down arrows to change to 0; hit Pause to save
d) If you get a Check Disc error, it may be you have a version of firmware higher than those which handle the hack - I got the error on v808529 . If so, "downgrade" to an earlier version by going to LG Product Support for BD390
I downloaded 808526, copied the unzipped .ROM file to a memory stick (I believe a CD copy might work too), inserted that into the BD390 and updated to that version. This time step (c) worked OK. I then went into Setup and searched for the latest firmware online and updated back to v808529 - dare say I could have downloaded that to USB as well; might have been slightly quicker

And my BD390 now plays Region 1 DVDs no bother - after little more than 10-15mins work

Good luck!

Hi!

I successfully hacked this player when first bought with no firmware updates, so do you say that if I update the firmware now that it's hacked, after the update it will still plays other regions discs?

Thanks!

Just the DVD - I don't believe there's any hack available on any Bluray player to make blue-rays multi-region...

Just wanted to give a big "Thank You" for this thread. I recently bought an Australian version BD390 with the latest (November) firmware. I was unable to unlock it with the ISO cd but I was able to revert to the earlier firmware exactly as described above and then I successfully ran the ISO cd and changed the region to region "O" and then updated to the latest firmware. All good!! I had issues in opening the Winzip file but these were self-inflicted - my USB stick had insufficient capacity - "Doh".

Potential users - persevere - it's worth the effort and the sight of the region screen appearing with, in my case "4" and then the power trip of changing it to "O" was very satisfying.

Hi
Downloaded 2 files onto a USB as recommended by Brantome thread. Player just shows the folders/files as empty on the USB despite them being there according to my PC? Why can't it see them.? Thanks.

That happened to me a few times too. I changed the USB stick to a much larger capacity and then had no problems. Keep trying and good luck.

Manual says you can't 'update' (downdate - there's a new word?) to old firmware? Is this in your manuals just before I try again and possibly blow the machine up?

Done it, thanks. Downloaded imgburn as suggested and burnt the ISOfile. Got two 4Gb memory sticks and removed all files except the old firmware and new one on the other.

Can now play my American Werewolf in London favourite dvd tonight that is region 0 and lead to me buying an Optoma HD20 projector and LG BD390 this week!

Cheers

Just done, downloaded the 808526 firmware and then the 6000.iso, worked a treat.

How many others have then re-updated their firmware with no problems ?

You can update to the lates firmware without losing the hack. The hack will only be deleted if you are resetting the device.

Best regards, maris

Did you do an online update? If so, which firmware version are you on now? If it upgraded to version 552, then I would downgrade again to version 544. Lots of problems with 552. LG even removed it for download from their website and put back version 544. I'm not sure if they have also removed it from online update.
