Is there a format hack for Toshiba SD-K780?

Question Is there a format hack for Toshiba SD-K780?
I have a Toshiba SD-K780 DVD player, which everyone says should be able to play multiple formats (DivX, AVI, etc). However, mine has never done so, only playing standard DVDs.

I am wondering - is there a way to turn on/off the multi format functionality? Or did I just somehow end up saddled with a bad model?
