Bathroom lights.

My bathroom light was flickering so I decided to replace it. The original light was a £12 fitting from B&Q and I’d put it up when I first moved in along with a light over the mirror. These days lighting is more interesting and economical so a fair bit of scope for something new then.

I went to Homebase and choose their Brighton light.

It is designed for bathrooms and uses a single 25w halogen light. Not much I thought so I’ll get two. They can both come on together and the light from two different sources will help eliminate shadows.

Even so that’s only 50w of Halogen light. It still might not be much. It wasn’t. The bathroom looked dull and dark even with both of them on. If the fitting took two 25w lights it might be better. Or for that matter a larger halogen. The thick diffuser doesn’t help either.

I ended up adding a three light track from B&Q (the Geni) as well.

With that as well as the two existing lights it came out at about £70 spent and the bathroom being lit by five 25w halogen bulbs. So 125w of electricity being used. The halogens are dimmable though unless you have a dimmer switch outside on the landing not an advantage either.

The bathroom now looks bright and with five different lamps on there’s no shadows, but don’t bother with a single Brighton light. I pity anyone who has bought one to use on its own. Also the bathroom ceiling now has two Kef speakers, two Brighton lights and the Geni on it.
