Checkpoints - Can we have manual saves as well please?

In my opinion the worst category a computer game can be classified as is that is boring. Games are meant to entertain, to maintain interest and to create excitement. For me nothing decimates that excitement more than badly placed checkpoints in games.

Checkpoints - otherwise known as auto-saves - are not a new thing. We've seen them in a myraid of games ever since gaming platforms got the means to save data. In First Person Shooter games they have always been fairly standard but,...

When will 'Games For Windows - LIVE' be Steamed?

The 'Games For Windows' brand comes in two flavours: the first 'Games For Windows' is merely a few basic standards to which developers must adhere before being able to put the brand logo on the games case. This has been a relatively successfull concept and has, at least, managed to give PC gaming packaging the same smart, uniform look enjoyed by the console versions. The second variant though, 'Games For Windows - LIVE', has so far been a massive missed opportunity.

Internet Explorer, Competition and the EU

Bowing to pressure from European regulators, Microsoft has annoucned plans to ship it's new operating system, Windows 7, without its Internet Explorer web browser. Competing browser makers such as Google, the Mozilla Foundation and Opera Software have long since complained to the EU about the bundling of Microsoft's browser.

So is this decision by Microsoft a 'good thing' for consumers? Of course it isn't - this is going to be nothing more than a pain and inconvienance. Installing...

Gaming - The Piracy Problem

Do you like gaming on the PC? I do - the higher resolution graphics, choice of control, content you can download to expand the game, bigger and more committed online communities all make it my platform of choice. Unfortunately the platform is becoming less and less attractive to developers.

Why is this? Even if you discount all but the 5% of high end PCs capable of running the latest games the platforms outnumbers the console installed base by millions. So what is the problem?...
