Will anyone have the Balls to release SD on HD?

Am I mad? Probably, however, hear me out.

I watched Pulse at the weekend, and actually did so through my Blu-ray player, not because I think it's a great upscaling wonder of the world (it isn't), but because unlike my Denon DVD2900 it passes the 640Kbps DD track correctly to my processor...

Anyway, it really got me to thinking because the picture is dreadful. It's not dreadful though because it's SD, it's bad because it's riddled with compression artifacts, blocking, mosquito noise etc. A quick run through a bitrate calculator shows that the DVD bitrate is up near 10mbps quite often, so they haven't held back on the encode...

Now, I know it was probably recorded on videotape, however, I'm sure if you watched the video master of that concert in the editing suite it would look 100x better than the DVD. I also know PF would have mixed the surround sound from very high quality multi-track tapes.

So, Pink Floyd, Queen and others, I dare you. Dig out some of these classic concerts and re-master them on HD with an upscaled 720p picture that with much bigger bitrates and better codecs should deliver quality indistinguishable from the tapes and free from blocking etc. Then add lossless audio.

I won't care that it's not 1080p video. I'll simply enjoy these concerts, videos etc in the best quality they'll ever be seen and heard in for the first time ever.
